Light inside tank

1/35th scale. Tiger Tank open hatches. Want light to show through hatches. tried fibreoptics but its not for this task. Want on/off switch to be about a foot away from the light.

Have you thought about using LEDs? They are pretty cool burning and are wired like any other electrical light, so the switch can be wherever you want it. I have used LEDs on aircraft and helicopter interiors before and they worked great.
