Help,! Im looking for a church to use in a dio, I have see nseveral with a church in them, but dont know wher to get one, I only need the front , whole or damaged, as long as its a church(dio will feature a Panzer driving thru the cemetary) so I just neeed it as a finishing touch, I have figured out a way to make walls from scrap drywal, but I prefer to buy I church kit if available
Cool, seems like we are following the same track in our dios. I've got my infantry coming through the graveyard (cratered) instead. I used the Italeri church stuff to get scale and I made more walls out of plaster.
Yesterday I picked up a figure of an Angel of Mercy and I am using it as a bronze statue. I painted it with a streaky mix of raw umber, burnt sienna and yellow ochre then highlighted with yellow green, turquiose blue deep and white to get the bronze patina. When all this is dry thouroughly I am going to weather it with chalk pastels. So far it is looking good. I'll stick it on a pedestal and put it in the graveyard.
The secret trick to speeding oxidation on real copper on bronze is urine, in case anyone wanted to know. Urea in urine makes copper go green.
Although I am doing a poor Norman chruch ruin, I decided to imitate bronze with this statue because I wanted the colour in the graveyard. Everything else will be basically covered in dust and will give it a bland look of desolation from the artillery bombardment. I'm also going to do some open graves in the crater and fallen headstones.
Thought I'd share my view in case you could gain some help. I've got lots of pics of ruined churches, but none of graveyards.
Thanks, I am thinking along those same lines, I found several kits, but I mainly want a ful roff on one, just so it jumps out as being a church, with a steeeple on top and all, and alll Ive seen are ruined buildings, I may use one and build another wall and part of a roof with it.
I am just kicking this idea around right now, I was reading a book about the Battle of The Bulge,it has some pretty inpresive photos of Tigers and of assault guns, then I read the details of a US tank destroyer unit at Rocherath-Krinkelt, when they were under attack fromadvancing units of 12thSS panzer Div, and heard over the radio there were"kraut tanks in the churchyard" and I got this picture of this huge fearsome machine mowing thru the graveyard, so I figured i would put it to use!lol
I hope yours goes okay, I dont know if this wil help, but for grave markers I am trying auto body filler, I made a cros type today, then painted it a gray with sand sprinkled n it to give it a concrete look, and it can be broken, it is also easy to use, I dont know if it would work for you but I wanted to share it anyway! I am hoping to find a Tiger or Jagdpanzer or such and have it running thru and over the cemetary, with some US slodiers hiding in a ruined walls on the other side..
Thank s for writing back, it wil be a huge help!
This is a church near Maastricht which would be at the top of the bulge.
For gravestones I am just using bits of left over plaster from making the walls. Since I have craters I only need to make a few unbroken ones. I'm going to paint them for colour. I have Liquid Metal in a tube that I use for odds and bit, but I don't like the fumes so I avoid using it for big stuff.
