I am planning on a dio of hans Von Lucks crossing the Seine in the retreat into Germany after the fighting in Normandy, can anyone tell me how his vehicles were carried across? He refers to the engineers using a pontoon ferry, are there any pics of these? I figured on showing their handmade troop ferries from fuel cans and house doors, and I have a Scwimmwagen i need to use for something for his transport, I just want to learn more about the equipment used to get across the water!
Thanks in advance!!!
Brian
Brian, there are some books you might find interesting. From the firm Editions Heimdal there are two books whit many rare photos of the crossing you mean. It are qualitative good photos. Photos of tanks that are ferried over are not in these books but there are photos, which shows how a group of armoured halftracks are brought over. This was done whit the help of inland ships. Everything on this boat was a heavenly camouflage whit branch from trees. I personally think that this was the way tanks where brought over.
The books I write about are:
EH-029 Repl: sur la Seine $22,95
EH-061 1944, The Allied Pursuit $42,95
Both can be ordered by the RZM Company. You will find them under www.RZM.com.
