| I've read in the bible about God doing certain things to harden someones heart, so even when they see miracles they don't believe in God. Like the story of Moses and Pharoh in Exodus 7:3-4 "But I will harden Pharoah's heart and though I multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt he will not listen to you". Do you think there is anything a person can do if they realize their own heart is hard? Maybe they want to believe but can't. Maybe they want to have a soft heart. It seems all there is to do is pray like in Mark 9:24, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief". But maybe there is something else? |

I can relate to what you're saying. Many have expressed the same sentiment. The "dark night of the soul," as it's been called, is part of the drama of faith. In fact, it was related to me recently that Mother Theresa claimed to have lived much of her life under the same burden that you write of here.
Given the fact that you are asking such question is evidence that your heart is not hardened in the same manner as the Pharaoh's. At any rate, here are two verses that come to mind:
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
(Psalm 139:23)
and
Be still, and know that I am God.
(Psalm 46:10)
In beauty we go...

Those are good passages. Mother Teresa was an amazing woman. I learned lately that your heart can only get hard if you take your focus off God.
Mark 6:50-52 They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once, Don't be afraid,"he said, "take courage! I am here! Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, for they still didn't understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in. |
