Wish I was at it people. Sounds brilliant and the idea of DOVES & Bernard doing my favourite New Order tune - 'Bizarre Love Triangle' makes me go all funny!
Must have been a good one if nobody is around to spread the word........
was wasted from Saturday so just about crawled to the Ritz last nite to meet Natasha who i must say looked great, stood right out she did...after passing security and having my spliff confiscated! one fuckin spliff! went into the sweaty Ritz!
Wilson came out and said a few words, bit of a shame people were heckling him when he was talkin about Rob, shame on you who did!
Massive respect to Jimi Dove, his Mum died yesterday and he looked a bit in a state but still performed magnificently, dont know how he did it but the show must go on, really sort of sad but he was ace....started with Man Who Told, then a song with heavily pregnant Jane Weaver, then a new one, then Bizarre Love with Bernard, which was fuckin brilliant!! totally brilliant. Bernard getting jiggy as well, top class, finished with Fear and it was far from acoustic, the place was bouncing... great show from Doves..
if someone else can tell us how the rest of it went i'd be grateful..but thats the bit i went for!!
It was great hooking up with you mate..... Glad you had a good time and thanks for the compliment - t'was a killer dress like..
Big shout to the good Dr.Walsh - strictly class a's for you eh!
Anyway, Like Fez says, it was an excellent gig, by far the best night out for me this year. The Doves were on top form, Bernard was just brilliant - I just love that man!!! The crowd went wild when he came on.
After the Doves, Mr Scruff came on and played some proper top tunes, the atmophere was amazing, beautiful manchester people (especially men) of all ages from 17-60 years.
ACR came on next. By far one of the best bands Ive seen. There set was just fantastic, they really went down well with the crowd, Denise Johnson provided some beautiful vocals(i congratulated here later).
After that, the music went old school, hacidenda style and the crowd were well up for it.
The only downside was the bar (as per.. it took ages to get a drink). The Ritz is a gorgeous venue and very fitting to the type of the event.
I stayed right till the end, and wanted to keep on dancing and talking everyone.
Altogther a fitting tribute to Rob Gretton.. a truly amazing and memorable night.
Why do people heckle Tony Wilson? Is it good hearted banter or do some people really hate him? I'm not from MCR, but if someone from my city had a bit of vision and pride like that of Wilson I would be really pleased. To heckle someone giving a speech at a memorial gig is piss poor and they should be ashamed of themselves.
organisers did well balancing live acts with dj's, can be a very tricky thing that but i think they did a good job... [might have been better putting mr.scruff on first playing funk/soul and hacienda dj jon da silva later when it was all going a bit hac but minor gripe!]
felt like the first night of the year when most of the manc massive were out and 'avin' it...
as a house head my highlights were jon da silva, graeme park and mike pickering, and denise johnsons' vocals on some of the acr tunes all bringing some dancechester vibes to the area!
brilliant night that seems to have got manchester buzzing again, met friends i've not seen for ages, top to connect again, i'm positive rob gretton would be very pround of all the hard work everyone put in, and the words tony wilson said...
massive thanks to all the crew and artists who worked for no pay getting it on... what a brilliant start to the summer!
a fitting tribute had a wicked nightmet badly drawn boy and mr scruff as well as hooky and even walked passed the lady herself (rowetta) didnt get a chance to say alright but gave her the thumbs up. top tunes top night knackered now though
Don't be shy.
Met loads of cool people last night.
Some diehard Mondays fans.
I think some people were surprised that I don't bite.
I am a pussycat, so say hello next time
COULDN'T PLUCK UP THE COURAGE EVEN AFTER LOTS OF STELLA.I THINK ITS CALLED STARSTRUCK. TOP NIGHT AND YOU LOOKED FANTASTIC.WILL SAY HI NEXT TIME ,PROMISE.
Thanks for the lift to The Ritz and to Dave Rofe for getting me home in one piece.
There was another party going on, but I'd done well without whisky & cigs, and didn't want to be lead into temptation.
Special mention to Jimi Goodwin.
How brave of him.
I was told the terrible news just before he went on stage.
I'm glad the crowd didn't know at the time, as it was really hard to watch him on stage without crying.
Doves were amazing last night.
Flawless.
And Bernard was on top form. Bopping around the stage like a teenager, and his voice sounds better than ever.
ACR did a good show, but Hooky was the star for me. He really has such a powerful presence on stage and he is half of one of my favourite couples. Love Mr & Mrs Hooky.
Tony Wilson was perfect.
The whole night was.
Underneath The Ritz after the show was a little after party which had a lovely vibe.
Great night.
Well done to John Drape & Leroy and all the others who put this night together.
Hooky wants me to sing at the next one, so see you at the 10th Anniversary, but personally I think they should do this once a year.
Top quote from Hooky too, speaking of the loss of Rob and Ian Curtis, then saying it could be anyone of us next....but then he added, "but we all know it'll be Tony!"
Jon Da Silva & Dave Rofe got the night off to a great start.
Mr Scruff was on great form, but the stars of the night for me were Graeme Park & Mike Pickering.
Really brought back the Hacienda, and the crowd looked the same as in 1989.
Perfect
It was an amazing night, as has already been said. It was good to see so many people celebrating Rob Gretton's life and legacy.
On the AHW heckling front, well, he's Tony Wilson isn't he? It was a bit off, given the nature of the event, but I thought he did a good job of remembering his friend.
