I just saw a post on CNN entitled, "Commentary: Tea Party isn't about racism." I read the article by John Feehery in which he argues that these so-called "tea parties" "presents the first truly grass-roots threat to the ambitious agenda of President Obama." Frankly, I think they are a creation of Fox News.

One comment by a reader caught my eye: "I don't need a white Republican to tell me what is or isn't racist. Let me put it to you this way: anyone who is against social welfare is racist. Does that make sense to you people?"

I also noted last night Jimmy Carter's remarks that racism is playing a major role in the criticism of President Obama. This is very disturbing to me, and I agree with him. When Rep. Wilson couldn't contain himself and yelled, "You lie!" during Obama's speech to Congress, he was probably seething with anger at seeing a black man in the podium - even if he could convince himself that his anger was really directed at whether illegal aliens would benefit from health reform.

Americans felt good electing Obama - and now some Republicans criticize Democrats for "feel good" politics. I guess some people just don't "feel good" with letting go of racism. But they are the same people who will stare you in the face and swear that they are not racist.
