Help with Fast Deer cocking

I posted this message in the Chinese air gun forum but there aren't enough people logged on there and I need help quickly, so I'm reposting it here.

My son loaned me his Fast Deer. He's unavailable right now and didn't leave me a manual.

I looked at the mechanism, twiddled the little safety one way and another, then pulled the cocking lever out. Once I got onto the trick of pushing the little locking bar, the lever swung out easily enough. It locked in the out position and I put in a pellet.

But now the lever doesn't close. It's locked open. On my B-4-2 it just closes easily, but on this Fast Deer it seems to be locked open.

What's the trick to closing it?
