you made an impression of your scope's occular bell, found the center of the circle (ideally should have used a compass?), poked a hole in the center of the circle to restrict your view to the center only, aimed at a fixed point very close to the muzzle and measured the distance from the fixed aiming point to the poi of the pellet. Ingeniously simple!
