When we moved to AZ. about a year ago, we of course had to get new drivers licenses. While getting that done, we met some folks who had just moved here from Nebraska. One thing led to another, and over time we became friends. It turns out that Dave is a big game hunter and never really gave any thought to airguns, even though he had a Sheridan when he was a kid.
He still thought of them as something to get kids started shooting with. This summer we had them over for a BBQ and of course, the wives paired off talking about their stuff, and Dave and I started talking guns, hunting etc. I showed him some of my airguns and his eyes lit up like a kid again. I showed him my varmint hunting video and he was amazed at what these guns could do.
It turns out that they are having a serious skunk problem at their place. They live out in the boonies about 20 miles from us, so I said, "here let me loan you my Discovery in .22 with some Kodiak pellets". The rifle has a Bushnell Legend on it, is sighted in dead on at 40 yards, and shoots those pellets into half inch, so head shots are no problem. I topped off the air tank and he took the rifle home with him. I told my wife after they left, "I bet I just hooked another one".
He said the distances he would be shooting at would be in the 25 to 30 yard range, so even better. So far he has taken out seven of the stinkers with seven shots. Now he wants to know where he can get a Discovery for himself. He says the forrest around them is loaded with squirrels and maybe we should get together when the season opens and go after some. This from a guy that usually only hunts elk and mule deer.
This stuff is just too much fun. Unfortunately, most guys never get to see the really nice guns that we do. Dave said that he has seen the airguns sold at Big 5 and Wal Mart but they have never really interested him. He had no idea there were guns like the Discovery, AA 410, FX Monsoon, and HW97 even available.
It's great fun to spread the word.
