I've used this kind of case on trips to Alaska and South Africa with very good results. You place your rifle inside a soft case which goes inside the "golf case" and then you pack your hunting gear (boots, clothes, ammo, etc) around it. The butt of the rifle sticks out the top so that airline/tsa inspectors can pull it for inspection without unpacking everything else. The top half of the hard case then pad locks to the bottom. It has two molded in handles and rollers for easy movement. No extra luggage was required (except a hand carry of course). My case was a Freedom but Tuffpak is another.
