Every barrel is different. Depending on whether your barrel is slotted or not makes a difference on the procedure for replacement. If its is slotted you can only put it in the slot. You are then at the mercy of who ever slotted the barrel as to whether it is correct or not.
If it isn't slotted you need to rotate the barrel and shoot shots in each position (usually 4 positions are enough). You will find the shots will make a circle as you rotate the barrel from position to position.
The idea is to, usually, put it (the barrel) at the high or low point depending on how your scope mount works out. Center your cross hairs before you start this. Then pick the shot that's closest to the cross hairs. This gives you a shot that is going strait from near to far with your scope at its most effective.
