Springer 'old hands' please lend me your insight please.
I had to do it sometime. I decided to take down the HW77 mkI and see what it was all about. The dis-assembly was straight forward. I think it has all the original internal parts. That would make them 30 years old. This is my first, so I have a few questions that a "Search" function did not answer. Seeing how this rifle serial paints it to 1982-83 period would the factory piston lube be gunmetal gray? I think the rear spring guide is OEM being it is nothing more than a simple metal tube: petaled at one end. I did not find any spacers at the piston head and the spring had a black dirty lube, (not much) left on it. The white breach seal was still intact and I removed it and cleaned it up a bit. It's seat looks like moisture has migrated into it from the small patches of what appears to be oxidation. The breach seal seat cleaned up pretty good and the seal it's self is pliable and otherwise undamaged. I plan on just replacing it with all new Macarri supplies. I De-greased and inspected. The compression tube shows no signs of galling or interference with main body housing. Finish is super smooth and polished. Internally, using flashlight showed no signs of spring chatter marks due to no top hat. The trigger unit had quite abit of old yellowing and drying up lube. This was remedied with a quick run in the sonic clear and lube pan. Did Weihrauch use top hats / spacers as OEM? Were Weihrauch seals originally white? The piston seal I was able to remove with my fingernails, (mine are pretty tough). It looks yellowed but still complete. It is pliable for the most part. The piston seat looks like it's never been touched. No pry marks that I can feel or see. The rifle has been shooting around 660 to 700 fps with pellets ranging from 7.33 gr to 8.3. The chrony showed lots of shot to shot variation in the fps. Before doing the dis-assembly: it started to transmit auditory and tactile indicators that the cockingarm was just now feeling / dragging on the spring coils when cocking. That's what motivated me to tear it down. I don't know if this was the right thing to do but I really wanted to see if anything needed immediate attention. Those of you experienced with multiple tunes, please take a look at the face shots of these parts and tell me if everything is kosher or not.

Right now everything is degrease / and sparyed with rem oil till the tune kit arrives. Everything will get re-cleaned, with all oil removed before install of the Macarri kit. Please let me know if I am overlooking anything critical. Any comments welcomed.
Thanks, Art Keys
