You can do your inletting on a router table! I have done it a couple times, but have sense bought a small mill! The biggest problem you will find is all your work will be done upside down, or should I say while you are milling out for your inletting you won't be able to see what is going on inside your stock! Here is the best tip i can give you sense this has worked well for me on the few I did before my mill purchase. get a piece of scrap wood the size of your stock, just the area you plan on routing out! get it set up so you are happy with the way your scrap piece comes out, then mill your stock with that set up! for dept of cut, use your scrap piec and bring the tool bit up to that point then cut your stock! then go to the next cut. Use your scape piece cut out the area you want cut out check it several times until you get it where you like it, then do the same to your stock piece! It works very well but you have to have a scrap piece to see where you are at! can you do it without the scrape piece? Yes but if you are like me and you have one shot at getting it right! or you can throw it on the wood burning pile! I use a scrap piece. Even if you screw up your scrap piece cut another one! I used and old 4x4 or you can use a 2x4 just get it cut the same thickness width and height as your stock is, that way it will be the same when you go to cut your finished stock. It works well just don't get in a hurry and it will turn out great! email me if you have any questions or post it here whatever you prefer! I have been a wood pecker most all my life and still am, I make all my own baseboard and trim for people and re-face kitchen cabinets with new hardwood doors and drawers for the fronts, and have built to many things to list! So go for it, you will be rewarded with a great looking stock!
