Given the appropriate level of care, I would believe that lapping couldn't hurt
an air gun's efficiency and precision.
I did it with my duty Steyr and it was more consistent over the chrony, it grouped
more precisely, and it was much, much easier to clean.
A friend did it to an older Webley using Sweets 7.62 and it completely destroyed the rifling.
That stuff is crazy caustic, like my girl; too much exposure makes it destructive.
Not enjoying Hurricane Irma as it goes over as I type this. Ugh!!!
