The old man was speeding again today!

With temps at 90 when I got home from work, I gassed up the old 1950s Crosman 114 and put a few over the chrony. The gun has had some mild valve work done and I drilled out the transfer port one drill size. I also added an extended bolt probe. First shot across the chrony blistered in at 725.8 fps. I was using Croaman hollow points - 14.3 grain. The next few shots settled in from 715 to 710 where it held for a few more. Then, it settled in again at 700 or so. I did not chrony a full string as I wanted to get some target shooting in, so I ony stopped to check speed every 3rd shot or so. Groups were 1/2" at 30 yards. The gun's a lot like me - old, but we still get the job done.

Really nice looking gun. I keep one of those around here also. It's kind of a beater but it holds a charger forever and shoots good. Did you do the stock yourself? Fantastic job.

Speaking of the stock,

I have one like that. Do you know if it is original, aftermarket, etc? JM was a kid at the time, so probly not one of his. Just wondering about the stock, kinda redder than normal, with the black at the forestock.

Stock is the original - just contoured

Crosman bulk guns had a couple different stocks on them back then. One was more of a slim-line and the other was a big-old boat oar. My gun had the boat oar so I stripped it and worked it into what you see today. The stain is Minwax red oak. Schnable fore end is painted black. I also installed a lighter trigger spring in the gun. That one mod more than anything, turned the gun into a shooter capable of some pretty decent accuracy.

I'm kinda old too and apprecuate the 1950's airguns. When Airgun Letter periiodical was sold I read an article abut another bulk fill you might consider. I love mine!
It;s a Crosman 111. It's bulk fill,.177,adjustable trigger, adjustable pwer setting, sturdy flat top reciever for scopes or red dot. Tom Gaylord was right in giving it such praise. It shoots nearly as well as my $1200.00 Morini. I'll never sell eithr of these pistols.
Now ya got me all interested in your rifle.
