I did a search for a review and came up with almost nothing. So now I'm calling you guys out! C'mon, post groups, pictures, info, etc.

Mom and Dad

May 5 2011, 2:08 AM

My mother told me to get a rifle on her dime last year and said it should be something "special" to remember her by. That rifle was a .177 HW98. I liked the rifle so much that I wanted another one in .22 and searched every shop I could find for a .22 HW98/R11 without success. I finally found a store in Canada that stocks HW98's in .22 and ordered one... My nicknames for the pair are "mom"-.177 and "dad"-.22. I guess I'm getting sentimental in my golden years but I enjoy thinking about the good years and times with my mom and dad when I shoot them.

IMO the R11/HW98 is the best factory springer available. With a Vortek PG2 tune kit installed they are the ideal combination of power, accuracy, loading ease, and ergonomics.

.177 HW98 JSB 7.9 Grain Express 962 fps average SD=2
.177 HW98 JSB 8.4 grain Exact 926 fps average SD=3
.177 HW98 H&N 8.8 grain FTT 920 fps average SD=7

.22 HW98 JSB 15.9 grain Exact 676 fps average SD=0
.22 HW98 H&N 14.85 grain FTT 709 fps average SD=0

16-17 fpe and outstanding everything... AOA has them in .22 too.

What are you waiting for?

R-11/HW98

May 5 2011, 9:07 AM

The R-11/HW98 is a capable and versatile rifle. I had one that I used for target shooting at 75+ yards, sometimes with a crosswind. Along with a Bushnell Legend 5-15X40AO scope I could repeatedly hit the bottoms of 8oz V-8 cans using the mildots for holdover while in the seated ft position. CP Lites or AOA ft pellets worked for me and would penetrate through both sides of a tin can at that distance. I have owned fixed barrel springers and other break-barrels, but in my opinion the HW-98/R11 is a complete rifle. I have a background in match shooting and two years ago I made the move back into 10 meter after a 10 year break. I've been shooting 10 meter exclusively and only own one rifle. With that said I plan on buying another HW98 for silhouette, field target and informal 10 meter target shooting.
