What makes the most readable scans?

February 6 2012, 11:51 PM

Steve and All,
It looks like the highly colored backings on Glenn and Neil's targets show up better than the cardboard, kraft colored, scan backer.
I got some targets printed on card stock today and it looks like card stock stapled to previously shot cardboard backing is better than regular printer paper on new cardboard backing for minimizing tearing at the pellet hole. The card stock added 3 cents to the price of the target.
Anybody have other thoughts or tricks for making the scans as clear as possible?

Hello Mike

February 7 2012, 1:31 AM

My targets are printed on card stock as well, taped to 3/4" foam board with foil coating. Once I shoot my "keeper" I scan it on my cheapy HP printer/scanner with a piece of bright yellow paper behind the target. That's really all I do.

Is there a commercial source for 'our' targets printed on target paper?

Targets

February 7 2012, 10:31 AM

I have a homemade box with a spring clip to hold targets and just use my old targets for a backing 3-5 thick and for scanning, I use a piece of bright construction paper to highlight target-works well-these targets were made by Gamo, but scaled down, so not sure about commercial availability.

Pizza Box

February 7 2012, 7:25 PM

Mike,

My target is printed on Card stock and I use a Pizza Hut box as a backer for the scan. I have found the PDF scan seems to work the best for e-mailing targets.

A little extra competition

February 8 2012, 6:33 PM

Hey Guys,
A while back Steve said he'd like to get some targets early in the weekly cycle. I've decided to send him my best effort up through Wednesday. I then use the next few days trying to beat my Wed. best. If I manage to shoot a better target, I send it along later.

Pellet trap is made, P-17 out of packaging, targets printed. Have not been able to get any clean holes from any paper. Card stock, stiffer than card stock, less than card stock. Tear, tear, tear. Experimenting with different backers now, really will send something...even if I can't score it.
