I bought a cow bell at Harbor Freight and painted it Hunter Orange for a 90 yard target at my BAGA club. In my basement at 15 yards the metal held up to several 20 ft/lb shots .
Cost was $4.00

Been shooting 'black iron' pipe fittings with up to 60FPE

November 12 2017, 1:39 PM

for a couple years at 75 yards (60 fpe is at the muzzle. Other than paint and breaking the string they are hanging from... LOTS of hits (thousands) no real damage.

I'm about to rebuild the 75y target and get a few to set up at 100y. Might finally do a post about them. Not the same ding as a bell but you definitely here the 'ping'...

Find an old fire alarm bell from a school

Something like this, mounted sideways on a tree with a lag bolt. Has about the same profile as a ground squirrel standing up (gopher). You can't miss the "ping" it makes.

Do-All Cowbell Targets

Do-All maked a 22 rimfire rated cowbell target that comes with a stand. I got a couple of them on closeout when the local Gander Mountain closed down.

Guys

I am trying various type of the throw away propane cylinders, small air cylinders,
88/90 gr pre filled cylinders that are used, and they come in various sizes.

I find them at the local dump for free,
make sure they are completely empty, remove or punch out the fill core,
the used a lag "Eye" bolt in the hole for hanging etc.

Section of grader blade cut off also work very well for AR and PB rifle,
along with old used up disc blades, from the local farmers etc.

HTH,

Tia,
Don

bell

I use a cap from a gas bottle and put it on a vertical rod. Rings like a church bell.......cheap too. When you are done with it just put it back on the bottle.
