Response to .177 or .20 Cal

I understand these are expensive guns. The reason i am looking for a beater is my budget is constrained, and I am not looking to do anything other than teach my kids how to shoot longer range on my backyard course. by budget is in the $200 to $350 area.

Am I totaly off with my price? I have looked at a lot of postings that start at $450-$500 but eventyally drop into my range. I thought it was a reasonable price point. Maybe not for a MKIII TX200 or posibly the HW97. But certainly for an early HW77 or TX200/TX200 II. Please let me know if I'm crazy here.
