This tank was an Infantry Tank, It should be remembered that it was the comparative class to the A34 Comet(cruiser), just as the Churchill was Comparative to Crusader and Cromwell etc and Centurion A41(cruiser) would have had its comparative the A45. There is a good section on this variant in Mr Churchill's tank by David Fletcher. Two exist today, a complete tank at Bovington and an empty hull in a private collection in Kent.

Of passing interest is that had production of the A43 started there was to be two types, one with 17pdr gun to act as anti-tank defence (6pdr Churchill replacement) and one mounting the 77mm Gun that would have replaced the Churchill VII (75mm medium velocity gun). The 77mm having a better dual purpose function at that time. In the event production did not start even the contracts for Churchill VII were not completed when contracts were cancelled.
