Im Really busy with my house renovations and creating a few other new sites on the side {dedicated to non toon subjects} but I'm always game to post new stuff if I find it. But, gosh, no one kicks in....Im sorta amazed, myself....I always thought it was a really great show with a lot of potential.I always thought it was funny witty adorable and hilarious. But I guess the show just doesnt inspire people like Power Puff Girls or Fairly Odd Parents...their sites are chocka- block with eager fans, tons of art and happy excited viewers who cant stop talking about their fave oneliners....Herc apparently does not inspire that kind of interest or excitement...after nearly 8 years mine is the only comprehensive show site out there, which is truly amazing...I'd always hoped we would attract this huge happy enthusiastic community of gung ho Herc lovers all ready to contribute, sign petitions and insist that life get breathed back into the Herc/Hades franchise....I guess Disney knew what they were doing when they pulled the plug.Ive actually considered just taking the place down and usign the space for my other sites as I just dont get enough reaction from people to make it worth my while.Dont mean to sound like a bummer but but websites are supposed to be fun interactive places of communication and ideas....it might be time to pull the plug for a little while.

Merry Christmas

by (no login)

I know its a bit early but just in case i forget to say it.

Lord, as the year draws to an end,
We thank you for so much:
For all the good and happy times,
Each smile and loving touch.
We thank you, too, for the other times
When things went sadly wrong,
For being there to understand,
You helped us to be strong.
Now as the year is ending, Lord,
We ask you to be near,
To be our guide and guardian
Throughout the coming year.

Been bouncing from fandom to another, -thus been very quiet here- working on this last schoolyear of mine but yeah... I'm doing fine for what things are. AND OH, they're showing Shark with James Woods now, started just this falls.

Plus Tara, if you and your son are still interested, I still have that pile of finnish post-cards I promised about... five years ago. If ya can share that home-addy again, -yeah, I've gone and lost that too- I could send those off in a few days.

And oh, I see you're doing a Spanish version of the site? XDDD Cool!

by Tara (no login)

this reminds me of a new story I just heard this month, a 1919 birthday card was delivered to a woman after all these years. She was dead, of course, so they sent it to her sister in law.The postman apologized and said, "We'll try to do better next time!!!!" ........apparently the letter had fallen into a crack on the floor of the mail train and stayed there all these years.

Cool to think of what was in there and whether this womans life could have changed as a result.....was there a proposal??? an invitation????

taking the soap box for a spin

by kyria (no login)

is anyone else seriously bothered when they see traced pics getting way too much attention? sure, if you trace the characters' face from the movie and make new bodies, the result is often somewhat amusing, but it's ......kind of anticlimactic. recycled faces. hm. i understand we herc fans are starved for good fanart, but that shouldn't mean those who want to create herc pics shouldn't try to draw the characters' faces themselves!!! it just gets kind of annoying when you look at a piece of fanart and think "oh. that face is from this scene. *yawn.*" sorry, i'll bugger off now

thats a point

by Tara (no login)

but, at least theres interest on the part of the people to draw them....its hard to draw original on model facial expressions......I don't think I could even trace a pic!!! I have noticed that artists often dont have great ideas....theyll draw Hades in a tutu, that kind of thing.A lot of them dont try to integrate the humour of the charcters into the art work.

thats where it takes thought

by kyria (no login)

something the disney fanart community is devoid of these days
i've seen everything from tracing real models' bodies to tracing screencaps and putting them together. and these are the pics that get all the attention! it makes me sick, and depressed. yes this is me venting as an artist who feels underappreciated, but its also me venting frustration at this stupid generation who is so easily amused by stupid cartoons that started it all... and they can't appreciate good work because NOTHING goes into this shit lately. NOTHING. (i blame spongebob personally.)

i was seriously watching beetlejuice and freakazoid the other day and lamenting the crap that's on for kids today. i pity the kids. (foo')

the hades tutu thing would work for someone like http://tvskyle.deviantart.com tvskyle. it really depends on the style. myself, i've done hades a la sanrio. it wasnt a perfect pic, but i thought it was cute at the time, and a way to get my foot in the door to doing more hades fanart.

not that i haven't wondered about drawing herc, but he's so bland and swirly compared to the jagged angles of hades and meg. herc reminds me of a golden cinnamon bun minus the sweetness. shrug and i only started on the persephone kick because i felt obligated to make pics of her for a roleplay. (which had its ups & downs)

but yeah, it doesnt have to be strictly on model. just practice until you can make it accurate. whatever. haha.

Yeah, Hercs stuck in the bland role.....

by Tara (no login)

.....its the classic cliche, he's Ritchie Cunningham to Hades Fonzie...Marty Mcfly to the Professor.....or if youre old enough, Dudley Doright to Snidely Whiplash. If you're portraying " a good guy" he has to, by nesssity,{esecially if he's supposed to be a hero to little kids}be all American, wholesome and clean cut with no hint of sexuality other than the fact Zeus gave him a nice bod and frankly, thats a bit boring....except the humour of the Herc world is supposed to come from the juxtaposition of Hercs annoyingly too good to be true persona driving Hades crazy. Ive never been one for football style hunks, in fact, I always liked teen Herc better, physically, but his sweet self denigrating "aw shucks" kinda charm always reminded me of Jimmy Stewart.I'd date Hades but I'd marry Herc. And people could have a lot of fun drawing Herc if theyd put him in situations that higlighted his humour. Before Tracey fell in love and got engaged and jumped off the herc train we were planning a bunch of pics depicting the real myths using the Herc charcters....actually Herc in a tutu would harken back to his days with Queen Omphale.

I have to disagree with you on SpongeBob, thats actually a Very thought filled well done show. I mean, it can be a bit nerve wracking for an adult Ill admit, but the animation is excellent{shadows, depth, perspective, 24 frames a second, show me another cartoon in the last five years thats that elaborate} compared to almost anything else on Nick and the humour can be legitamately hilarious....c'omon, any toon that interpolates clips from 1924's Nosferatu cant be all bad, can it???? and their whole Barnacle Boy and Mermaid Man bit was definately inspired by The Griffin episode....I'm sure of it.Someone heard Tim Conway's grouchy old bastard whining to his partner in a nursing home and got inspired.

No, when it comes to killing inspiration Im more apt to blame the anime stuff{ducks several hundred objects from the anime lurkers}.

Speaking of fan art, have you done anything lately??? Id love to see...I dont get out surfing much these days, as you know Ive really drifted away from this site. Not cause I dont love it and the Herc world, but things have changed a lot for me and I havent beem able to really pay attention or be as creative as I used to be. Just to give you an idea In the last two years my son developed epilepsy, my dad died, my Mom sunk into a psycotic depression, my sister's in a bad way cause her husbands got Alzheimers and we spend a lot of time driving to Philly on the weekends to help out....plus we've started renovating our house with the aim of building an apartment for my daughter in the cellar as she heads off to college. She plans to commute because I dangled the realization that the 60 thousand bucks we save on college dorm and food fees will pay for a deluxe ultra dorm room in the cellar, several top notch trips to Europe in the summer, grad school tuition and a hell of a nice car. There may even be money left over to start a business or use as a house downpayment. She agrees!!!! of course, we Happen to live in the part of the country thats got some decent, well known well affililated universities just lying around, so I realize we're lucky in that sense....if we lived in the middle of nowhere and she had her choice to go to "Bluebird College" maybe Id feel differently.

Anyhoo, sometimes I look back at this site and marvel at the time we poured into it, but man, was it fun. I still looking over the old stuff and Im still grateful to everyone who contributed and made it so great looking to look at....and who knows???? maybe someone will come along eventually and pick up the torch again.I get inspired when I see other people getting inspired, so, who knows???? if only the series was back on the air....

mhmm

by kyria (no login)

absolutely on the herc/good idea thing. though it helps, again, if you're not lazy. ha
you can go a lot of places with herc humor, but then again, that's where the show was derived (deprived?)

spongebob, i noticed, introduced a lot of quirky humor that i see mirrored in cartoons like fairly oddparents. i don't know. maybe it's just the whole lot of nicktoons altogether. maybe i should blame those damned fairies. haha. anyway, i DO agree on the fact that if anime hadnt become as commercialized in america as it is now, american cartoons wouldn't have taken a turn for the worse. though i'd take commercialization of anime over influence of anime ANY day. ANNNNYYY day. i'm still kicking myself for being obsessed with it when i was ....what, 13?

i have done new art... not necessarily new fanart, though it depends on what you've seen and haven't seen. http://kyria.deviantart.com

i'm sorry about all that. at least you get to save money with gil. and youre lucky she's not throwing a fit over staying at college. you are truly blessed with your kin.

if someone does come back to pick up the torch, you'd better hope he or she isnt a tracer :P

Oh, Id settle for a tracer....actually Tracey was a tracer

by Tara (no login)

...more or less...but she Was brilliant at tweaking the facial expressions to fit the gag.She started out doing original stuff, found the site, loved the ideas we came up with and just was there at the right time and right place. Like Sara, she was just obsessed, and one night Id make a joke and the next day shed send me a pic, totally finished, colored perfect ....how else do you think the site got so big???......to quote Woody Allen, "It just goes to show you what you can do when youre a omplete psycotic"...Since she was such a good sport about all this I endeavored to make her job easier by putting together "mock-ups" up scenes and ideas

........these are really just screengrabs traced, enlarged and beautifully inked....and unlike the movie, not as many people have seen the show, so youd have to be a serious owner/watcher/veteran to recognize series grabs....and of course, the joke that went along with this I flatter myself in thinking was pretty funny too....in fact we have a fan fic floating around based on the idea that Hades tries to get Athens high...actually thats a problem too, thinking up Truly original fan fic ideas.....which Im terrible at. I got the conversation down and I can describe nice scenery, but I can never think of something that hasnt already been done. Except that laying an undergraound pipe from the Athens steambath to the rotting body of The Python {"they have'nt cleaned that up yet??!!!}is a cool idea.Herc could do battle in the tunnel and get all sorts of hallucinations....or hades could, actually.

Anyhoo, thanks for your kind words. Yeah, thats the thing with living long enough...you eventually run into lots of problems, but , lots of good stuff too.Just have to have a great sense of humour about things.

PS, did you think the show did not go far enough wit the Herc/ humour??? I htink it went too far. It went so far none of the target audience could understand it. The show is geared for kids 3 to 11, remember. Thats the problem, its really too old for children but too gentle for a generation of teens brought up on South Park. It falls through the cracks....what they needed was twice the budget, three times the production time and having the writers being told they were working for FOX!!!!! lol..now that would have been a show!!!!!

interesting cartoon effect

by Tara (no login)

.....one huge hold up in creating new stuff for the Herc site is a lack of artists committing to drawing anything, they either dont have the time or they simply are not that inspired.....but now I discovered something.....software on my Kodak disc that turns screengrabs into comic book art.....check it out. This could be cool to play with....I could actually illustrate new interviews and fanfic using this thing.....

I had a feeling that wouldnt last long.....and to be honest, its not that nessessry.....the Herc movie is available all over the place....you can get it on Ebay for 3 bucks, for Petes sake, or take it out of the library for free. But this does bring up a subject Ive always been curios about....how can You Tube get away with most of what theyre doing, and why did Google pay 2 billion dollars for them??? knowing that 96% of their appeal was due to copyrighted material??? sure, theres some personal homemade videos out there but people dont tune in to You Tube to watch some sophmore jiggle his manboobs in the mirror......they tune in to see copyrighted material thats not available any where else or theyre too lazy to go to Blockbuster.{Or too young too drive there.}For Google t spend all that money KNOWING theyre purchasing a lot of already pirated material throws a confusing note to us consumers and makes it hard to figure out what Legal is.

My friend Michelle and I have decided to start a project. We are going to come up with a "What if" story, being "What if Herc didn't have to become Mortal, what if Meg could become Immortal?" Anywho, this all came about because, if you recall, I had started designing Herc and Meg's kids. Well, she designed one too, and somewhere along...we decided to do this. Anywho...you can see our first collaberated image here.

Daughters of Hercules

I drew the one on the left. I pulled A LOT from Hera on her appearance.
