As I am going through Warren Co. VA Land Deeds I am looking for the transfer of various house of Warren Co. VA from generation to generations in the same family or if the property was sold to other families. I am, of course, looking for the houses my own ancestors lived.
One house/home/farm of my gr-grandfather Charles E. McKay had a farm, on Rt. 661 was his neighbor A.J. Bowen's farm called "Gentley".
Found on the net under "Valley Conservation Council Vision--Gentley Farm conserved in Warren Co. VA--Susan and Maurice Bowen and their mother Mary Bowen have donated an easement on their 158-acre farm in northern Warren County. Gentley Farm believed to be the oldest farm in the county head continuously by the same family, includes a circa 1840 manor house and adjoins many other easements, creating a protected block of several thousand acres."
We can trace back through the Federal Census the various Bowen families that lived on the site. Knowning the actual location of this farm, other researchers looking for their family farm might be able to place their family farms locations.
One of the neighbor of both McKay, Bowen, was the farm of Wm. Mitchell and it was sold by his widow and children to John I. Johnston and later occupied by Morgan Johnston. I am still trying to find the "Golden Record" that will link together Morgan Johnston, John I. Johnston and Matilda (Johnston) Mitchell. All three of the families lived in the same general location.
