Macedonian MoFA: Congo is another fabrication by Greece
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will check information that Democratic Republic of Congo has vowed to address the Republic of Macedonia with interim reference fyrom instead of its constitutional name, reads MoFA press release.

Taking into account previous experiences with Panama and Mexico, the Ministry expects this case to be another fabrication by our southern neighbor and an attempt to manipulate the Greek public, especially after Macedonia's recognition by Chile, a country where Greece has invested substantially, in terms of misinformation.

It is obvious that Greece resumes with the provocation game, which has a manipulative use to misinform its own public on the 'triumph' of Greek diplomacy. Athens cannot face the fact that 125 countries worldwide use our constitutional name, reads the press release.

In the meantime, the last South American country we did not have diplomatic relations with - Chile, has recognized the Republic of Macedonia under its constitutional name.

Seeing the necessity to ignore this truth, Greek authorities are trying to present some kind of a turnaround in the international use of name Republic of Macedonia through its controlled media, thus additionally confusing the Greek public in the perception of this most popular foreign policy topic.

Today, Greek news agencies reported that a Congo official and Greek Deputy-Foreign Minister signed a communique according to which this African state obliges to address Macedonia with reference fyrom.

On July 23, the Greek MoFA informed through local media that Panama had altered its position regarding Macedonia's name. Only two days later, Panama FM Samuel Lewis Navarro denied this information in a telephone conversation with Macedonian counterpart Antonio Milososki. Greek media did not inform on the denial, and hasn't mentioned Panama since.

Last week, the Greek MoFA issued an information at its website that the Mexican Government provided assurances that they would use the reference in the Macedonia-Mexico bilateral communication. On the same day, the Mexican ambassador to the UN denied the Greek Ministry by sending a note to Macedonia's UN Mission, in which he expresses gratitude for Macedonia's support for Mexico regarding its nomination for non-permanent Security Council member, using the country's constitutional name in the note. Moreover, the ambassador confirmed that the Mexican Government has neither debated, nor altered its decision from October 2001, when Mexico established diplomatic relations with Macedonia under its constitutional name, reads the MoFA press release.

Local media A1 informs that Congo's Foreign Ministry has already informed the Macedonian Government that the African country has never met to discuss the issue and don't plan on meeting for it because to them Macedonia is Macedonia.

The Macedonian Government isn't at all surprised by the latest propaganda tactics by Athens. A year ago, the Greek Ambassador to the US rushed to the White House to complain that Macedonia exhibited unfriendly activities and is siding with Chavez of Venezuela. For the record, Macedonian officials have never met Chavez. It took US Officials four days to figure out the Greek Ambassador was simply lying and it was a rather lazy attempt to create a rift between the U.S. and Macedonia.
