1) Everyone's a newb at some stage.
2) Newbs grow up by participating
3) What stops newbies participating is the surliness/unease/mistrust of the oldies.
4) In some cases (hi, Max! ^_^) the oldies feel they've got a point.
5) My point: I like the status quo. It's kinda fluffy.
