Understand your concerns here. MSTing, ideally, is not meant to flame and insult works outright. You wouldn't believe how many submissions I receive which is just the riffer using his/her riffs as an excuse to go off on a genre/coupling.
On a personal note, I'll confess that the early NXE MSTings were not very good, because they relied too much on slamming DJ and his skillz. Lots of people panned it and I tweaked in the process. (Also, dissing an original character/SI when you're riffing with a posse of original characters/SIs wears quite thin)
I've also read quite a lot of Eyrie Unlimited works, partly for research, and ultimately since they can be quite a fun read. Helped improve the NXE Project in general, in fact. Read all of NXE, naturally, first couple books of Undocumented Features, and a little bit of Warrior's Legacy. Tried to get into Symphony of the Sword, but not into the shojo thing really. Plus, it's leaning more toward becoming the Corwin Ravenhair show...
So, to wrap up, don't worry. DJ Croft's in good hands. MSTings aren't supposed to be done as critiques or slams, but to be, y'know, funny. Joel would want it that way.
