DANA <Cid>: ...how special. Tell me, do you know Issei Mataloun?
Yup, Issei had MPD, but he's apparently stopped writing now that he's taking his medication. I found the whole ordeal kinda disturbing, honestly.
SAMAS: It says, "Your mustache smells like parmesan."
WAND <Lord Torgamous>: This means WAR!
Actually, I'll have to question Wanderer here... I'm fairly certain this joke appeared in "Bruno the Bandit". Or possibly both.
WAND: Great. This 'fic is set in Bill Willingham's sex drive.
I've read Ironwood. It's pretty good, as long as you don't mind the explicit sex and nudity.
SIG: ...I can't believe that a town where a horrible zombie-rapefic is taking place is named after a furry forest animal. It makes me feel like I'm in a 'Tales of the Riverbank' rerun.
RAN.X <horrified>: You actually watch that?!
SIG <slightly miffed>: Hey, there's nothing else to do while waiting for Cyber Team in Akihabara... no, wait, you DIDN'T hear that.
[ALL quickly hide their tape recorders.]
Tales from the Riverbank is some old children's movie about forest animals... I may have seen the Swedish-translated version, I'm not sure.
Cyber Team in Akihabara is an anime featuring cute girls in power armor. Signus seems to be reluctant to admit he watches it.
CHAR <Annah>: Tchh... looks like the Dusties lost one of their Deaders!
Who doesn't love Annah, the foul-mouthed Tiefling from Planescape: Torment? She's commenting on the main character, who indeed bears a good resemblance to someone who's very dead... gotta love that Hive slang.
R.JAK <Lina>: I'll never forget your heroic sacrifice. SO GO AND DIE ALREADY!
Lina Inverse from Slayers; she was busy throwing her sidekick, Naga, at a troop of knights, so she could escape.
JON [Dustman]: Now let us rejoice that her journey is done. She has shed the burden of life and found the purity that awaits all creatures in the cup of oblivion.
No one got this, it seems... and I'm not blaming anyone. It's a direct line by Wheezle, a surprisingly cheerful gnomish Dustman appearing in the Planescape Novel "Fire and Dust".
"Fire and Dust" was originally supposed to be published by TSR, but was turned down at the last instant; the author instead decided to put it up on the web.
If any Planescape fans read this, the novel can be obtained for free from several sites.
VID <Victor>: Your group will now be known by the designation CNNN FDDR.
The military services habitually makes abbreviations by removing the vowels from words.
