If you do carry it with paraffin in the tank make sure the pressure relief valve is open so that heat doesn't force liquid paraffin up & out the burner jet. The black oil is probaly just an accumalation of muck in the pump shaft from past oilings of the pump leather. You could try cleaning out the shaft with a rag & screwdriver & cleaning the leather as much as possible.
