Just watched a program about TWA Flight 800. I remember when this tragedy occurred. That night I had been outside watching the sky for meteors...There had been a rash of meteor showers around that time & when I heard about the eyewitness reports of an object streaking toward the plane, the first thing I thought was that it had been struck by a meteor. What many people reported as an object flying upwards from the ocean, I theorize was actually an object flying from around the horizon. The meteor would not necessarily have had to have hit the plane...Meteors have been known to explode in mid-air and the force of an explosion near the plane may have been enough to cause the plane to break in two & ignite the fuel tanks. If I recall, there was some discussion of this possibility very early in the investigation, but the missile theory quickly took center stage. I'm interested to know if anyone else has ever considered this possibility. |
