The young girl takes another sip, then puts down her mug and looks at her watch. "... man, I want to go to sleep so bad..." She picks up the clipboard on the table, then looks through the various papers attached on it. "Lets see... I have to inform Commander Steiner about Hayame's progress on L4..." She stops flipping through the pages, surprised at seeing one of the papers. "I still have that email Lucretzia Noin sent to Ms. Sally..." She drops the clipboard back onto the table, then slowly finishes her mug. "Ah... my fifth cup of coffee..." The woman gently taps her comms watch, then asked, "Control, this is Mayuki. Do you know where Isobel Steiner is?" There was a short wait before her question was answered. "This is control, Isobel Steiner was last reported to have been in the brig. We're kind of booked right now so could you hold the requests for the next few hours?" Mayuki replies, "I understand control, thank you for your help." The comms watch clicks off, and Mayuki takes her clipboard and proceeds to find the elevator shaft.
"Hayame." She stops her walk, and soon does he. "Yeah?" "You told me more than you usually tell others... about yourself." He turns to face Relina. "Yeah... its just that you reminded me of someone pleasant." She gives a smile, then continues to approach the door of the thick building. Hayame follows, noticing the guard standing in front of the door. He notices the guard talking on his cell phone. Relina walks up the steps to the door, then gently taps the guard on the shoulder. He replies by promptly opening the door while continuing his conversation. As Hayame walks past, he notices the guard's oddly-colored orange boots. "Freak...", he thought, then quickly discarded it and proceeded into the ambassador's wing.
The elevator stops. The doors open with Mayuki looking down the long hall lined with cells. She feels chills up her spine already, but quickly shakes them off and proceeds on to her objective. Mayuki walks around the entry guard's desk, then sees who the guard really is. She harshly thought, "Jay, you freak, out of all people I'd have to deal with you in a place like this..." She raises her clipboard and hits him on the back of his head, waking him from his long-too-dormant sleep. "OW!" He suddenly turns his chair to search the culprit, only to see Mayuki. "Oh... its you..." "Yeah! You're right its me! Tell me where Commander Steiner is!" He slowly thinks, then replies, "Uh... um... did you check the mess hall? She could be... um grabbing dinner um..." Mayuki's frustration is already showing on her face. "Man, he must have been asleep while she was here..." The sound of a man is heard down the halls. She quickly turns with fright. "What... what was that?" "Oh, some guy named Zechs. Here, want a gummy bear?" She slowly digests the response, then suddenly thinks "... Zechs?" She faces the dark corrider again, then turns back to Jay. "Jay, take me to the cell." Jay looks at her, then with a little drowsiness obeys her command. As the two walk down the hallway of cell doors, she takes a look back at one of the papers on the chart, then asks inquisitively, "Jay, why is Milliardo Piececraft down here?" Jay answers, "Because hes a retard." "What?!"
"His mind is messed up. I don't know anything about the details, some psychic did it to him or something..." They stop at the cell where the man's voice was heard. "This is too silence-of-the-lambs creepy... why am I down here?" She takes a look back at the email Sally Po gave her. Mayumi focuses her eyes on the last sentence of the email. "Please... tell Zechs I love him." The man in the cell mutters, "Peace to all mankind... hmph, war shall always exist as long as we are alive." She looks at the man in the cell. Jay starts to walk away. "I'm getting out of here, you woke me out of one of me better dreams..." Mayumi gave a blank acknowledgement, then turned her attention back to the cell. She thinks carefully, "I don't even know him... but I have to try to help... Noin must love him very much..." She steps closer to the door, making sure Zechs would her her voice through the small celled window. "Mr. Millardo, are you there?" The man turns away from his unorganized thoughts to the young girl's voice. "Yes." "Good...", she said, then turned back to her thoughts. "What do I do now... ask him about Noin?" She gives her attention back to the man. "Mr. Millardo, do you remember Lucretzia Noin?" There was a brief pause before his voice is heard. "Yes... she fought to protect humanity." Mayumi then asks, "Mr. Milliardo, do you remember anything special about her?" "No." Mayumi turns back to the email on her clipboard, then faces the lost man. "Mr. Milliardo, think really really hard." He did what he was told, then answered back, "All I can remember is... she always had feelings for me... like she loved me or something..." Her face starts to lose hope. She thought, "You don't know how right you really are..." Zechs interrupted her thoughts, "Is there anything else?" "No, thats about it. Thank you for your time Mr. Milliardo..." She then slowly walks away, calmly turning her comms watch off. There is valid reason why anyone would want to be alone after feeling what she felt - the despair of lost hope. "Hey, young girl!" Caught off guard, she gives her attention. "Yes?" "Promise me you won't tell anyone what I have told you. These thoughts... these memories, they stay up here, in my head." She slowly responds, "Yes, I promise. Please get some rest." And so he did. Wished hard did she also.
"Hayame, thank you for walking me today. I enjoyed our time together." He remains unmoved. "Yeah, me too." Relina turns her face back to the door as it opens. Relina walks out of the elevator shaft, with Hayame following close behind. But suddenly, a woman's hand reaches for Hayame's arm and with strong impulse turns Hayame around to face the woman. "Stay away from her you freak!" Relina turns only to find an angry Noin seeming as if she would kill Hayame at any moment now. Hayame calmly responds, "What are you talking about Noin-" "-I know what you did Hayame..." "Yeah, a lot of people know what I do. They're called the higher execs-" "-Cut the crap Hayame. I want you to stay away from Relina for the rest of your time here." Relina tries to gather thoughts together. "Noin! Whats going on!" Noin turns to see Relina, but quickly gives face back to Hayame. "Does Katsuma ring a bell?" Hayame is obviously startled, then turns in anger. "Yeah, I thought so-" "-what you think I don't give a crap about. You have no idea who I am, what I am, or what-" "Oh, Hayame Tetsu, I have a pretty good idea exactly WHAT you are." "STOP IT NOIN!", Relina screams. Noin directs the surprise on her face to Relina. "Noin, why are you attacking him! He has done nothing wrong to us!" "Ms. Relina, stay out of this-" "-No! I am not the little girl like you used to know so long ago!" Noin is in surprise. She slowly thought, "When did Relina suddenly get this strong?" Noin, still facing Relina, directs her thoughts back to Hayame. "Hayame, just stay away from her." As Noin walks away, Hayame grabs her arm, then pulls her to a distance where he would know his words would be heard by her ear. "Listen Noin... I know you care for her much, and I know how much you would want to protect her... I've realized how precious and fragile she really is today... I respect this..." Noin slowly loses her anger, then turns into a humble voice. "... but don't you dare pretend to know that you know me. Only one person alive really knows me. I hope you do know what that feels like... stop this crap about suspecting me." He lets go of her arm. "Katsuma was... is a brother to me. Don't dare bring him up again." Hayame gathers his cool, then walks away from both Relina and Noin. "I'll be in my quarters if anyone needs me." As he slowly walks into the shadowy parts of the hall, Relina quickly approaches Noin. A mix of surprise and anger, Relina prepares to ask Noin a question, only to see a tear fall from Noin's eye. Relina then calmly says, "... I understand..." Noin is left there to face the terrible wrong she just caused Hayame.
The woman walks through the mess hall doors, quickly being greeted by the bartender.
Bartender: Heya Sally!
Sally Po: Hey! How you doing tonight?
Bartender: Just the same o'. You want something to drink? Coffee, anything?
Sally Po: *smiles, then replies* No, thank you anyway.
As Sally walks down the mess hall trying to find the right table, she suddenly sees a familiar person with her face down on the table.
Sally Po: Hmmm, could that be Mayumi?
Sally approaches the table, only to hear the young girl's sad breath. Sally slowly bends over, putting her hand on Mayumi's shoulder.
Sally Po: Mayumi, are you alright?
Mayumi gives a few more deep breaths, then slowly lifts her head to meet Sally's.
Sally Po: Oh my... Mayumi, you look terrible! What's wrong?
Mayumi: Could... could you sit by me... Ms. Sally?
Sally Po: Sure! And please, call me Sally. Otherwise I'd have to court-marshall you for disobeying orders.
The joke made Mayumi smile for a brief moment as Sally pulled up a seat by the table.
Sally Po: See? I knew my favorite girlfriend could still smile.
Mayumi: ... thanks Sally...
Sally Po: So, whats wrong?
Mayumi: *reaches for the clipboard, rips out a paper and hands it to Sally*
Sally Po: *takes a look at the email she received from Noin, then faces Mayumi* Mayumi, I don't understand-
Mayumi: -I saw Milliardo Piececraft... in the brig...
Sally Po: Oh honey... puts the paper down
Mayumi: ... I tried to help him... but he can't remember...
Sally Po: *takes Mayumi's hand* Sweetie, listen to me. takes a deep breath There was once a woman who thought the same as you. Her name was Melissa, and she was a psychic. At the time, Zechs was depressed, so Melissa thought, with the help of a psychic tool, she could help him. Unfortunately, it made things much worse for Zechs, and now he has trouble putting thoughts together.
Mayumi: What happened to Melissa?
Sally Po: Some say she died when London was destroyed. But listen to me right now *gently tightens her grip on Mayumi's hand*. Even though he cannot think for himself, he knew what you were trying to do. You did your best, and I'm sure he was happy someone like you really did try to help him. Mayumi, you have the most kindest heart, and I know you mean well. But some things can't be changed. We just have to try to move on, no matter how many handicaps are placed on us.
Mayumi: starts to gather her composure Yes... I know what you mean Sally.
Sally Po: I know Noin would be pleased that you really tried. I know I am. So many people have lost so much in all these wars, but don't lose hope Mayumi. I still want to see that cute little face of my best girlfriend when I come back on my rounds.
Mayumi: smiles ... Thank you, Sally.
Sally Po: Now come on, lets pick up some dinner and eat it at your place. I wanna see that Tenchi Muyo movie you always wanted to show me.
