I can't imagine that's true. The reason the original show closed and the 20th revival didn't do so well (besides the controversy) is because "Annie" is so ubiquitous that tourists don't need to pay $120 a pop to see a halfway decent production of it. Every community and regional theatre in the country does it fairly well and fairly often. There are also a lot of other family-friendly shows on Broadway right now.
