Martin at Macy's

...and yet Martin did something un-Martin-like; he picked a tall 12-year-old who would have outgrown the part in six months. That certainly surprised me. All along, starting with Louanne and Allison Smith, Martin began to see the sense in choosing a very small Annie, one who would stay in the part for a while. And, as we all saw at Annie 20th, once the producers decided that Joanna had to go, Martin eventually ended up with a small, young Annie of the type he probably would have wanted in the first place, but there wasn't one available in the open call. Brittny was in the room and was picked as July, but at Macy's she was only 7 and not skilled enough to go right into the title role yet, so he went with Joanna.
