It all depends on how far you are from where the tour stops. Usually you can still get the rights to do a show that's touring as long as the tour doesn't come within a certain radius of where you will be performing. Happily for my daughter, who is playing Molly this upcoming weekend (orphans were double cast, and her cast was assigned the second weekend) she finally has the opportunity she has been waiting for and that every little theater-obsessed girl longs for -- to perform in Annie. And I have the opportunity every theater-obsessed mom of a theater-obsessed girl longs for -- to get to see my little girl in a show I never was lucky enough to be in as a youngster.
So if you're in the area, come check it out. I'm generally pretty critical of my theater (occpuational hazard of being in many community theater productions, good and bad), and I must say this is one of the better ones I have seen.
