Topamax is supposed to treat pain...

by Linda

I am taking topamax in the hopes that it will keep me from getting a headache. It is supposidly used to treat migraines and is supposed to be taken every night before bed. The doctors have said that by taking it at night I should not wake up with a headache. Unfortunatlly for me it has not been working.
After a two day stay om the hospital I am home. They think that there is a collection of fluid in one of the ventricles again. It seems like I am going to have to have an adjustment of my shunt again. hopefully that is all it will take. I will not know unitl my neuro gets back into town. Until then things are up in the air.
The reason that I don't lioke this medication is because first it has not been working for me. And second because it causes numbnes and tingling in my face and in my hands. My face feels numb and heavy like it does after visiting the dentist office and havinf novacaine injected into my upper lip it numbs out my nose and my lips. Then my hands feel like I feel asleep on them they are heavy and they have that "prickly" feeling to them. It is very uncomfortable to say the least.
The worst part is dealing with this and not getting the benifit of pain relief.
This has been my experience with Topamax.
