SHAY HEATER

Just thought I would add a bit of informaton about the Shay heater for the forum.
I have a 1980 Standard Shay Roadster. There is a single heater located under the seat. (None in the rumble seat.)

Hot liquid is fed to the heater core with 5/8 id hose and a 3 inch duct connects the unit to an opening under the seat. There is no shut off valve anywhere in the 5/8 line.

The heater core began leaking so I simply removed it and bi-passed the heater core by inserting a 4 inch section of 5/8 od (1/2 nom copper tubing); installed clamps and I am good to go.

I live in California so I don't need the heater (Sorry !!!), however I intend to replace it. The pop rivets holding the heater housing together can be carefully drilled out to remove the core. I took the core to a local radiator shop and they will repair it at a reasonalbe fee.

I have attached a few pictures for reference. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks

DON
