How To Use Photobucket to Post Permanent Photos

There has been some discussion recently on the problem of photos disappearing from posts on the site. The Network54 "realm" that is used to put pictures into a post is temporary, and the photo's will not be seen after about a week. It is my understanding that this is to prevent someone from uploading up millions of megabytes of pictures that might crash their server.

The Photobucket service noted at the bottom of the post page will allow for permanent photos on the post.

You can register free by clicking on the blue Photobucket.com link. Once you are registered you can place photos into your posts. You have now created an "album" on Photobucket.com . Save your ID and Password somewhere so you can refer back to it as needed.

HERE IS HOW TO DO IT.

Once you enter your ID and password you can upload images to the Photobucket site by doing the following;

1.The Photobucket window will open after entering your ID and password.

2.Click on the bar marked "browse". That will allow you to search through your pictures on your COMPUTER to select the photo you want to upload to your album on Photobucket.com .

3.Using your file explorer navigate to the file and photo you want to use. Click on the photo you want to upload and select "open" in the dialog box, click on "open" and you will be sent back to the Photobucket page. You will notice the location of the photo you selected from your computer directory is now placed in the space to the left of the "browse" button.

4.Click on the button marked "upload image". This will upload the image you selected to your "album" on Photobucket.com. A thumbnail of the photo will appear below. You can upload as many photos into your Photobucket album as you want.

TO INSERT A PHOTOBUCKET PICTURE FROM YOUR ALBUM TO APPEAR IN YOUR POST ON THE SOCI FORUM DO THE FOLLOWING:

5.Left click the thumbnail you want to use and it will have a blue frame around it. Below the photo will be a space marked "URL" and to the right of that will be the location of your photo in the Photobucket album. It will start with "http:".

6. Move your mouse cursor to the box on the "h" of the "http:...", LEFT click and hold the mouse button and "drag" the mouse to the right to highlight the entire address in that box in Blue. The address will turn Blue. Let up on the left mouse button. The highlighted address should remain Blue. Click the RIGHT mouse button, and choose "Copy" in the dialog box.

7.Move the mouse cursor back to the posting area in your SOCI forum post, locate where you want to insert your picture, then "RIGHT" click again. A small black vertical line will appear at the location you want to place the photo and the dialog box will open again. Choose "paste", and the address of the photo will be pasted on your post. THE PHOTO ITSELF WILL NOT POST, BUT THE LINK TO YOUR PHOTO WILL BE PASTED IN THE LOCATION.

Then save your post to the SOCI forum. When you save your post and then view it the photo will appear in your text.

This is a little complicated, but once mastered you can add permanent photos to your postings on the SOCI forum.

As a suggestion, print out these instructions and keep them handy for when you want to post a photo.

If you have any problems, feel free to contact me and I will walk you through the process.

Sticky Topic now added

I have added a permanent "Sticky Topic" link to the posting above at the bottom of the opening page of the SOCI forum.

That will remain there to assist people in posting photos using the Photobucket service.

Leland,

As mentioned in the posting, those pictures are NOT available anymore to view. They only last a week or so using the Network54 method of posting pictures.
