Dona
We had 2 Sahys (mine and Dave's) and 13 people for lunch. We had a great time and agreed to meet again next year between race week and bike week.
Jim Bannerman
Donna: Shay Day in Central Florida was a great sucess and FUN! I have some pictures and I will get them posted. We plan to do a repeat performance for next year, so trade in your Snow Sled for SUNSHINE.... Dave Shank
Not one to remain silent but I wanted to thank all of those that participated in the Daytona Beach, Florida Shay Day on Saturday, March 28th.
It's was truly a positive experience for my wife and myself in particular to finally meet many of those I only knew by name.
There were two Shay's driven there, those of Dave Shank and Jim Bannerman...The setting was what one loves about Florida....A spectacular waterfront restaurant, the Aquarium, mostly sunny weather and temperatures near 80....And, the most important part, nice folks all.
As Dave wrote, he'll post a photo or two of the Class of 2009, Daytona meeting.
For anyone behind the scenes or to Jim Bannerman and Dave Shank in front, thank you for the opportunity...Sign us up for next year!!!
Kathy and myself had a great time at the event it was great to meet with old friends and meet some new Shay owners that we had never met, and also to meet some that I felt like we already new but had not met in person, but had conversation with on the web site. I hope every one made it back home safely. After the event was a sad time for some of us, because we only had a few more days before we had to leave Florida and return home, and some to still winter weather.
Attached are three photos taken by Dave Shank's camera...Dave took two photos and a kind passerby took the other which includes Dave...I am posting for Dave but the words are mine.
The weather was typical Florida...Mostly sunny, breezy and around 80 degrees so eat your northern hearts out!!! Florida beckons!!
The CREAM Shay on the left belongs to Jimmy and the BEIGE Shay on the right belongs to Dave.
I probably have some of the names mixed up so if I erred, please let us know.
Linda & Bob Cowgill
Jimmy Bannerman
Judi & Reggie Foote
Mary & Bill Van Palen
Theresa & Dave Shank
Myrna & Don Kitchen
Kathy & Morgan Harris
Again, many thanks to Jimmy Bannerman and Dave Shank for putting us together in Dayton Beach....It was such a success that there's a get-together planned for about the same time, same place next year....So mark your calendars for March, 2010 to be in Daytona Beach.
One note..They now charge $5.00 for driving on Daytona Beach itself!!!
I will do my best but there could be an error here as I'm rather forgetful:
Bob Cowgill (Light Blue Shay Shirt)
Linda Cowgill (Matching Light Blue Shay Shirt)
Jimmy Bannerman (Tall Bearded Dude with Cute Hat - That's his Shay behind us))
Judi Foote (Black Top/White Pants - Too Sexy For Her Own Good)
Reggie Foote (Really Old Guy - Short- Tinted Glasses - Desert Boots - Did I Mention Really Old???
Bill Van Palen (Really Tall Guy)
Mary Van Palen (Really Long Brown Hair - I Think It's Really Bill's Daughter)
Myrna Kitchen (Short Dark Hair - Pink Top)
Don Kitchen (Beard and Sport Cap)
Theresa Shank (Pink Top)
Dave Shank (Winner Of The Dave Shank Look-Alike Contest - Cool Cap - Shay Shirt)
Morgan Harris (Another Really Tall Guy - Hawaiian Shirt and Baseball Cap)
Kathy Harris (Pinkish Top)
There..I think I did it right??????
The remarks are mine exclusively...If anyone finds anything offensive, the OTHER GUY did it....What a great bunch of folks (Except for that Foote guy wearing his 1958 Model Desert Boots).
As I wrote, I thought but wasn't sure so here's the correction in the right and final order...Good thing I don't smoke cigars anyway!!! Apologies to those I misidentified..See, I said I old!!!
Left to Right.....
Morgan Harris (Light Blue Shay Shirt)
Kathy Harris (Light Blue Shay Shirt)
Jimmy Bannerman (Tall bearded Dude With Floppy Hat)
Judi Foote (Really Sexy Blonde With Sunglasses)
Reggie Foote (Old Fart)
Bill Van Palen (Tall Drink Of Water)
Mary Van Palen (Long Brown Hair)
Myrna Kitchen (Short Dark Hair - Pink Top)
Don Kitchen (Bearded)
Theresa Shank (Pink Top)
Dave Shank (Cool Cap Guy)
Bob Cowgill (Really Tall Guy With Hawaiian Shirt)
Linda Cowgill (Pinkish Top)
Reggie, I know the Cowgill's , Harris's and Shanks . So I knew you had a couple of them wrong. Just have to chalk it up to age I guess. ha.It's hard to remember names. I liked the pictures regardless.Of course Dave had to show off with his Shay emblem shirt.
Donna: You and Bob need to give up the SNOW and come South next year... If you do show up YOU can stand next to me... Beach Dave " Chick Magneto"
DONNA: I drove Shay almost every day while at New Smyrna Beach. I was in grocery store parking lot one sunny day and two women came over and asked What Kind Of Car Is This?? I told them it was a " Chick Magnet" and I said. . See it worked on you chicks!! You came over and now you are now magnetized... They were THRILLED..
I have found that now that I'm OLDER, I can get away with doing and saying things I would have received an obligatory SLAP from the "Chic's" just a few years ago...It pays off when the gals think that just because we're MATURE, we are HARMLESS.
I'll try the Dave Shank CHIC MAGNET method at my next car show...I don't want to use the word "MAGNETO" as that's an older person's word, isn't it??? What young person would know what a MAGNETO is???
Lastly...As all of you readers of our experience have gathered, seeing the smiling faces in the photos and reading the positive words, we hope will encourage you to attend the Daytona Beach event next year..Or why wait...There are other get-togethers happening other than Florida....Put in some effort and meet up with some of the "coolest" folks around....Anyone can own a Ford Model A, but it takes uniqueness to own a Shay or Camelot.....Besides, many owners get to wear "cute" hats and caps!!!! We get to meet old and new friends and at least we get to eat!!
Reggie
P.S....I want to thank the one that said "You're actually taller in person than I imagined".
