Buying Model A Parts

Hi All,

The following for new users of the FORUM and SOCI site as well as those that are starting to get into the hobby.

Those of us that have purchased Model A parts to install on our Shay's and Camelot's may use different suppliers though most of the parts are manufactured by the same company such as VINTIQUE which doesn't sell directly to the public.

My focus here, is to shop the suppliers such as Mac's, Snyder's, Bratton's, LeBaron Bonney, Smith & Jones, Sullivan's Garage, Mike's, Speedway and the passel of others to look for the best price which includes part price and shipping rates....Sometimes the price is the same and other times by a margin.

Many of us use a certain supplier because of experience, price, shipping charges, ease of ordering and service.

So, shop using your own "comfort zone" be it price, or service as the two main criteria....We are very lucky to own vehicles we can update or modify with parts still available.

Sorry..Just thinking out loud!!!!

A parts

May 14 2009, 1:32 AM

It's sweet that mac's puts out a rag top replacement designed for shay's. maybe one day there will be more shay aftermarket parts. Whats nice is that most A parts fit a shay. I change out 5-6 part every year. I kid my model A club members that every year my shay looks closer to a model A and their model A's look more like my shay with all the modern things they are putting on them. Have a great summer.

What about Speed Way Motors Reggie? They have parts and generally cheaper in price then the others. I was just checking again on prices with their new catalog.

Model A Parts

May 14 2009, 3:12 PM

Hi Gary,

I did mention SPEEDWAY in the text of my message listing companies of familiarity.

I have their catalog and have bought parts from SPEEDWAY...For one, they carry the replacement LEXAN wing windows and hardware as well as a passel of other parts such as WIPERS and MOTORS that will fit.

Troy is right about more and more Model A parts fit our Shay's..My next "attempt" is to replace the rear bumper with Model A "split" bumpers.

Who0ops! I miss that Reggie. I do know that they are cheaper on the bumpers, LED Taillights, and a few other parts.

Split Rear Bumpers

May 15 2009, 7:45 AM

Hey Gary,

I was asked why I would want to change to the split rear bumper??

They were standard on all Ford Model A's from 1928 through 1931...I have seen more than one set installed on Shay's.

Like many Shay owners, I'm trying to make my car look like a "real" Model A but with more dependability and safety.

Reggie,
If you do put a split bumper on the back of your Shay, please take plenty of pictures on how you do it. That is something on my to-do list for the Shay in 2016.
