3 minutes to install side view mirror

Today I took my shays to have a smog test,California,I took the freeway, she kept up with traffic,I almost hit 2-cars,because the tire side view mirror did not work. I went home and took the upper driver side windshield screw about 1/2 inch out and cut off the head and screw on the tire mirror, same threads.
This might not be right, but it works. I asked the other post ,about his side view mirror, how he did it? No feedback. So this is my method. It looks great. The shays passed smog.

Congrats on the Shay and for passing the CA smog. I also live in CA, so know what you went thru. I have had my Shay less than a year and like you, one of the first modifications I did was to install a side view mirror.

What part of CA do you live in? I am near the Ca/ OR border.

Yup...you know me, "up with the chickens". What about you, going to be in a parade? I had a chance, but think I'll pass. Maybe next year.

I live in So. California

Hi Steve,

What other modification have you done? I like to change the cowl lights to Model A, I do not like the Orange lense. By the way ,I had a noise on the drivers side rear wheel. What happen was that the emergency brake unit inside came apart and was scraping. I was lucky that it did not bind up the rear wheel at 65 MPH. Tom

Hi Tom, Another modification I have done, was to disconnect the air pump. I am doing it in stages to make sure the engine runs OK. So far, so good.

Also I put in a more modern radio and speakers. Thats about it.

If you do a search, you can find info on changing the cowl lights including pictures.

thermostat

July 6 2009, 3:09 AM

Steve,

I need to flush out my radiator,I notice that the elbow that holds the thermostat is corroded. I think I have the 192 degree one and would like to put the 180 in? what do you think?I moved the restrictor for the carb. Now the primary opens up all the way, before it was 3/4 open, but my secondaries are still close when gas pedal to floor. Tom
