Left my Shay back in Utah, for the winter, and Just met a Shay owner down here in Arizona that has his top down. It should get about 85 today. I should say though he was broken down along the side of the road. His shift rod had pulled out of the transmission. and he was waiting for a tow truck. But I turned around to check things out, My wife though I'm crazy to go back about a mile to the first turn around but as I told her that its a Shay down here in Carefree AZ, Next year the Shay is coming to Arizona with me.
That Shift rod pulling out of the transmission seems to be a pretty common problem. The shift rod, which screws inside a fitting that screws into the tranny, actually vibrates itself loose. I dismantled my shift rod assembly, cleaned and oiled everything, and then put everything back together with "Loctite" on the threads. I haven't had a problems since...... I have an exploded view of the shifter assembly take apart and replacement if anyone needs it.
I would like to get a copy of the shift rod pull out diagram
I have a 1984 Camelot deluxe roadster but I think the trans is pretty much the same as the Shay
Thanks
