The jouney as a single entity doesn't bring crowd loyalty. Its a matter of achieving a point where people just KNOW when you're playing you're going to RIP it like that. The musical journey itself is just a part of the whole picture, but when you achieve a point where people know what they are getting, and they know its gonna be hot, then you get that following.... and that spans any musical genre.
Part of building that type of trust with a crowd is your journeys and what you do with your records. You don't have to take the same journeys all the time, and you don't have to stick to a formula per say, but just being able to feel out a crowd and put your music out there and touch them... time and time again... thats what brings the loyalty. Nothing more, nothing less imho.
