the guy who is giving out the scholarships for Michigan state is most likely not looking down the road to the long-term future or caring about how much more money the president of the NBA is going to make.

Nope. Just "doing my job" would in this case require only looking as far as how his scholarship might benefit the University of Michigan in the next four years (and maybe a little bit beyond).

But I think I'm being a little extreme here. I'd like to still beleive in the better intentions of those decision-makers in academia.
