A women view on the Superbowl/Janet Jackson

It was not just a breast! As a women, I have to ask this question. Seeinng a man reach over, pull an article of clothing off a women and expose her a breast is not a health act for a child to see. Think about it for a moment. I didn't see it on TV. But I did see it on a website. Someone must have recorded and replayed and downloaded to their computer. The act to me was not cool for any child or adult to see. What if that occurred at a nudist resort with different people involved, would it be just a breast?

Most of America . . .

. . . seems to agree that the "breast incident" was outrageous. It came at the end of an indecent show that assaulted family values, the climax of which was the bared breast.

The ripping off of that part of the costume was planned, rehearsed, and required the preparation of a special costume feature. In view of all that, I don't think it can appropriately be viewed as an assault on Janet Jackson. She was a willing accomplice from beginning to end.

The assault was on the viewing public, and most especially those who thought they were just watching a football game with their children.

I have to agree with your analysis. I would add that the actual sight of the bared breast is a secondary and lessor concern. None of us would object to simple exposure of any breast. (Of course, in the larger society even this would be too much to accept.) I think that the more "shocking" aspect was a simulated act of sexual violence toward a female which was in keeping with both the lyrics and preceeding dance movements. The context of the exposure is vital to understanding the overall disapproval of the act. Janet, Justin, Nellie, et al, were guest performers at someone else's venue, rather than at one of her own concerts. It would still be tasteless, but the public would know who they are going to see and what they are paying for. Finally, I believe that traditional naturist/nudists do not believe in forcing their nudity on an unsuspecting public. That would be bad manners, and negative publicity for a cause we all believe to be virtuous

Re: Super Bowl

Everyone seems to be focusing on how the children that were watching the super bowl were exposed to the bare breast. While the act was inapropriate and should not have occured, the bare breast (even in the context of a seducing song) seems like it would not be as 'harmful' to children as the violence of the actual game would be. Although I don't believe that football is harmful for children to see whatsoever, I just thought it was interesting that this point is overlooked and the focus is on the 2 second flash of a breast rather than the 4 quarters of high impact bone crushing football.

I guess what I am trying to say is that even though the breast was inapropriate, I can't see how it could be any worse than the violence of the football game itself. (I see neither as harmful to children)

Just my two cents...

I didn't see it either

I didn't see it either, because I tuned out that awful halftime performance. Worked on Bible Bowl stuff and watched an elephant thing on PBS during halftime.

You're not likely to see anything like this at a nudist beach. If a simulated rape like the ripping off of the breast covering happened at a nudist beach, someone would likely get ejected from the beach or arrested for rape.

Worst thing you usually see at a nudist beach is the occasional gawker. Now, they're obscene!

Women's View

Dear Spunklady and others, I certainly agree with you. I will be 17 in April and have enjoyed as a Christian naturism since I was 12. My mom and I were over some friends for the Superbowl and they turned off the half time show to have a devotional, so I have only seen news replays of the event. I have learned to respect and enjoy the body God has given me. I suspect these individuals would have to believe in evolution (mere animals - so we can act like animals) in order to disrespect the body our Creator gave to us. From reading my posts you all know that I believe the female breasts can be exposed in certain situations - the Superbowl is not one of them. I am comfortable being nude around other nude people and in my home, but would never believe it appropriate to expose myself - whether willingly or unwillingly - in front of others. I think if more people understood who we were created to be and understood naturism all of this crassness would end. I am glad that there are people out there who understand, respect and appreciate the body and can enjoy it for what it is. Muffin

My Muffin

February 9 2004, 10:21 AM

That's my Muffin - one of my cyber great grandchildren! I am so proud of you. All that the seniors around here can talk about this past week was how disgusting the halftime show was <though most of us slept through it> and how terrible this new generation is. I would love for them to meet some of my cyber greatgrandchildren. Muffin - you make me proud. NF <don't remember how to make a smiley face, but I am wearing one>
