My apologies to readers. Further below appears the same post from me repeated about 10 times. When I tried to upload it, I got a message saying that my message had not gone through. I did try several times, but not that many. Not sure whether the problem was my own computer or that of the Great Repository Of Messages In Cyberspace From Which This Forum Originates.
Boyd, how about talking all of those down but one? Thanks.
You have a sharp eye there, partner. Yes, someplace in there I decided to try to solve the problem by rebooting. It didn't fix it, but this morning everything was back to working again.
As you obviously know, but some readers might not, my router randomly assigns an IP address to each computer whenever it starts up. The address each computer gets depends upon which other numbers are in use at the time.
then you type: ipconfig /renew
it will then reach out to the DHCP Server and request a new IP address. Most of the time, if done within a few minutes, you will get the same address.
If you are having network issues, or would like a new IP address, release it as above. Shut down your pc and wait a few hours or one whole day, then reboot your machine. It will automatically get a new IP address when you go online.
Then check again for the IP address as above and see if it changed.
That's information that I expect will help someone out there, and I thank you for the effort.
In my case, I've been able to leave the Windows world and return to my first love: Macs. I had never had occasion to do this process, but you made me curious.
On my Mac it works like this: System Prefs>Network>Configure. Once at the Configure screen there's a button to click named "Renew DHCP Lease." When I pointed to it a message popped up telling me that it gets a new IP address.
