My husband had off yesterday and today. Today was a perfect day here in NJ - sunny, warm, low humidity and breezy - a great day to try the beach that Liz and her friend had gone to several times. We drove to Sandy Hook and finally reached Gunnison beach - very nervously we walked to the CO beach - thnking we should turn around, but at least willing to walk there and then turn around. When we got to the CO beach, quite a trek, everyone seemed so peacful and quiet and just enjoying being nude... we walked and looked for a few minutes and then my husband said "how about over there" and so placed our beach items and then he said let take a little walk - as we walked we looked some more and talked and then decided to go back to our spot - he was willing to get totally nude and I was willing to take off my top (like many other women) - and so we did - it did feel funny and we feel very self conscious at first but then we realized that no one cared or was looking - we just "fit in' (perhaps with the exception that we had tan lines); after about 45 minutes I thought well I'm here and I've gone this far I might as well try it all the way and off came my shorts - hey- this is great! In about a half an hour my husband was ready to go into the water - would I get up - would I walk to the water - yes, that's me walking with my husband (and feeling a bit like a school girl) to the surf's edge - yes that's us swimming and riding the waves (such as they were) and absolutely enjoying it and being comfortable. we could see why Liz enjoyed both the sun and the surf - and all in all it was a very comfortable environment - you do forget that you are nude and that others are too! we kept the sunblock flowing and had a wonderful day. Just wanted to get this off to you before the day ended and we closed our weary eyes. Liz is on to something - wonder how long it will be before she notices my almost all overtan. Smiling - Mother of Totally Tanned Teen - yes, we will go again and bring Liz if she wants to come and then perhaps the little sister the next time.

Thanks for sharing your great day with us. I think your experience parallels that of so many others: you had to work up your nerve to "take it all off," but once you did you discovered that it was no big deal—but what a feeling!

My prediction for your family is that you will find that sharing nude times together at the beach leads to some wonderfully important communication with your girls. The various families that post here all seem to report that absence of clothing leads parents and kids to be closer and closer.

Very cool! Congratulations on your first nude beach experience. Your reactions of anxiety and then growing comfort are like those of most people to a first time experience. Which is to say, enthusiastic! All of us here are very happy for your family and this great new adventure in togetherness.

I've never been to Sandy Hook, but I've chatted with many who have been regulars there. It would be hard to find a better place to go. As you bring your girls along with you, I suspect you will find it brings all of you even closer. God's blessing on you.

Great story about your enjoyment of the CO beach in NJ.

I often enjoyed beaches like this in Europe while on trips and sailed nude in Singapore.

I often wonder what some of you do with your valuables (like car keys, etc) when you drive to beaches. Most of my times at beaches were at hotels where I could leave my stuff in my room (hidden or checked with security), while checking room key to not even worry about it. I did make some trips to beaches on the shores of France but couldn't go swimming because car keys were with my towel on the beach. A couple times at a nudist place, I left stuff locked in vehicle and hid key.

Still not having any luck finding short pants. Plan to try Pennys and Sears at their sales tomorrow. Someone suggested I look at women's pants. Only shorts as short as my current ones are underwear or sleep (who wears these things?) shorts.

When you find trousers that you like take them to a seamstress or tailor and have them shortened to the proper length. I have done this several times because like you, I find that all the shorts on the market are to long for my tastes.

Probably not much help but we locked everything in the car and then took our beach chairs, towels and a small cooler; we had placed an clean zip lock bag in the cooler for our keys and my husband's medication...worked for us. MTTT

It has been a while since I was at Sandy Hook. What are the current fees to enter the National Recreation Area now? I thought I saw on one of the various boards/forums that there is now a charge for parking at the Gunnison Beach parking area. Is that true?

There is a per car fee ($10) to get into SH - no additional parking fee for Gunnison or elsewhere. MTTT

Thanks for the update. Seems like we have another young lady leading her family into the wonderfull world of naturism.

Swimming without a suit sure is better, isn't it? You don't have to worry about it coming off in the water, and there's nothing to cling and drip when you get out.

Just over a month ago we went on vacation to Florida, where we got a chance to go to Apollo Beach(our first nude beach experience). Only after we had planned our trip did alot of folke here start talking about NJ. Sounds like we should have come up that way, from what everybody describes. Maybe next year.

At least you were smart enough to use enough sunblock. We're used to being nude up here in VA, but weren't ready for that Florida sun. Ouch.

Keep us posted on your adventures. It's refreshing to hear about first times all over again. (Does that makie sense?)

P.S.- Ralph, just take along one of those little "fanny-packs" to carry keys and such in.

I tend to discreetly bury the key in the sand. On one occasion I buried my key, I spent half an hour looking for it, so be careful if you do that!

Ralph, I know what you mean about Florida sun. I stick very strictly to this rule: stay out of the sun between 10:00 and 2:00 p.m. and take it easy during the other hours. There's still plenty of hours of daylight to enjoy and you won't be nearly so burned.

This is great! I am excited to see more and more jumping in for real!
