Where is everybody?

Everyone OK? I know that the NE had some serious flooding. I hope you all made it through.

Now we got another Hurricane doing a backend run around, and it may go in any direction.

I have had to bail out some water in my basement sign shop, got the landlord to bring a pump (which he said he was bring a month ago!).

I lost about three days of work, but made it through fine otherwise. My parents saw a bunch of tornados in Northern part of Florida (Clay County, Middleburg)plus the creek (Black Creek in Middleburg, FL) rose about 5 feet above official flooding. 16 feet is the flood point, 21 feet is where it hit. Their backyard is quite wet. Fortunately they have a long back yard to the creek. So they are doing fine. No power as of yesterday (Thursday) but got their phone back up about ten minutes before I called! they have been out of power since Saturday. My brother got them a generator.

I better get out there and sell some signs today. If I don't make any money, then we will lose our Van to the Chrysler Corp. So your prayers for success will be appreciated. But I do have to be thankful since we still are intact otherwise. Many has lost homes and businesses and with no insurance! (We don't have any either).

But we are still dreaming on and working on. May God bless you all to success and a great future!

New stuff for me

September 10 2004, 7:20 AM

We only got near 4" from Frances. It overflowed Ivy Creek for the first time this year, but it didn't get up into my garden where I'm trying to ripen some Sugar Baby watermellons. Think I'll go down today and harvest them. Got a bunch of weeds to pull before they make seed, too.

I'm now editor of the monthly newsletter for our master gardener group here serving about 3 or 4 counties. Put out my first issue, which is mostly Word attached in e-mail, last month. 'Twas mostly a copy and paste thing, as we get lots of input from the members.

Got my first digital camera and am fooling around a little bit with it.

He said it was going to be slow

September 11 2004, 9:25 AM

Cheef, in his latest letter, said that he was going to be a little slow for a while.

Be honest with you, I have no idea how he gets all those articles unless people send him the news from around the world. Too much to keep up with.

I mean't the forums....

September 11 2004, 2:37 PM

Yeah, Cheef mentioned that he had some changes in his career (for the better) that slowed him. So that was expected. Even the forums have been quiet at cheef.com. So, I was just theorizing why it slowed down.
Cheers,
JA

Very busy times for everyone

September 14 2004, 6:05 AM

It's hard to keep a forum going, especially when the host is busy. As you can see, this one is slowing down for one, school is back in, people are getting ready for the fall, and second, the hurricane is not helping.

I just hope everyone is OK.

I wonder how the hurricane has affected schools in the worst hit area of Florida?

Boyd the high school nearest to Cypress Cove lost the cafeteria and gym. Polk and Osceola county schools were closed for a week to cover roofs with tarps and bring in new portables. One of the hospitals here lost their roof. Bearone

Water logged

September 14 2004, 6:01 AM

I know it's tough for a lot of people down there. I have a friend in Orlando who's brother in law's roof caved in and the whole house is a loss.

I'm getting worried about Kevin. I emailed him but no response. I hope he is safe.

There are a lot of people along the east coast here, and I hope they are all safe and sound. From collapsed houses in Florida to flooded streets and homes in the North East, including the mountains, everyone is affected.

Now Ivan is coming up to add more water to the muddy mix!

Hang in there everyone.

I'm here

September 14 2004, 9:17 PM

Just haven't felt like posting.

My mood swings occasionally, and I've been in a "yeah, so?" mood for a week or so now.

Sorry I didn't reply, Boyd.

There you are!

September 16 2004, 7:19 AM

YEAH!!! Glad you are safe.

I know those mood swings. I have them often. I have been able to keep them somewhat under control, but I do have to take some medication to help out. That, in itself, is a mood swinger: Having to depend on medication to help me with my mood swings makes me feel frustrated. One of those unexpected side affects.

I have to admit, at times, I feel that way here too. But I have seen reasons to keep on keeping on. Your help and encouragement has been invaluable to this board. So please take encouragement from all of us.

And that goes for EVERYONE here!

I know that the weather has not helped. But weather happens. God is NOT punishing America (would you believe someone actually said that North Carolina is being punished by God via the storms? If NC is that bad, maybe that person needs to move out...maybe to ). I know some people worry about that. But keep in mind, they are reading too much old testament and believe God still operates that way. Yes, sometimes God does punish, but keep in mind, many of the old testament examples are because the people were under the old law. We are no longer under those laws, we are under the Law of Love. Love God with all your heart, mind, streagnth and soul, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. These are the two greatest commandments. The law was given again at the last supper when Jesus said "A new law I give you, that you love one another" and "They (the world) will know that you are my disciples if you have love one for another."

We are no longer under the old law. We are no longer being punished in the same way. In fact, often, we are punished by our own works. We hit our toe, our toe hurts. Thats life. God expects that. We should too. God does not direct our toe so it will hit the coffee table. And if we build our houses on sand instead of rock, then our house will fall down in the next hurricane. No punishment from God. That was our own doing. God said so in the bible. Jesus talked extensively about that. I think we should listen!

Sorry, I got off on a tangent!

Anyway, good to hear from you again. You are a solid rock here.

God and the weather

September 16 2004, 9:10 AM

I believe that the problem with extreme weather may be the results of mans greed and pouring exess Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It is a direct result of our behaviour that the weather is changing to be more extreme. God does not have to punish us for our greed we do it to ourselves. When God gave us the task of stewardship of his creation he did not give it to us to abuse. It is the result of this abuse that we now are suffering floods and droughts to the extemt that we are.
Sorry I'm on a soup box too.
Funny how kids still think cyclones(in the Pacific), typhoons (in Asia) and hurricanes(in the Carribean)are exiting despite the damage that occurs. I remember Bebe that hit Fiji in 1972 and how we all played in the flood waters. Some kids were out in the peak of the storm trying to catch fruit bats as these are good to eat and are usually hard to catch.
I pray that all of you are safe and that you can keep your spirits up. Let your mood swings stay on the up but not too up (there are problems with that as well).

Here in the US, we call it a soap box - I am not sure why, though.

Anybody know why?

dislexia?

September 17 2004, 7:25 AM

In the old days in England it was allowed to get up in Hyde park in London and speak your mind in a place called "Speakers Corner". The only thing was the pedistool you could use could be no more than 10 inches tall, the height of a soap box. The speakers all took along their soap boxes so they could get on it and be more noticed.
That's it apparantly.

Here I am!

September 16 2004, 7:27 PM

Thanks, Boyd. It's nice to be appreciated.

I'm feeling alot better now: we had a talk the other day at lunch and again after work. I was just getting bummed out because it seemed like everything I dreamed about was so impossible. Myra has a wonderful way of encouraging me in times like that. She makes me realize that I can do anything I want, just not always right away. We made some loose plans that will take about two years to come about. It's VERY hard for me to wait that long, and to sacrifice the things we'll need to do without to make everything happen. I want it all, and I want it NOW.

And Myra hates my moods. She says that I'm bipolar (no kidding here), and she has suggested medication, but I won't do that yet.

Anyway, thanks, and God Bless
Kevin

Mediction and Mental Health

September 16 2004, 10:03 PM

I am a Mental Health Nurse, in the Old days I was called a Psychiatric nurse. I am very aware that today there are many presures on people and so they react to these with what mayseem like extreme mood swings. It must be rembered that people with out a mental illness have mood swings and that each person has diffrent ranges of mood to another. It is always better to remember that if you can reason you do not have a mental illness, If you have difficulty with reason then you do. If you don't have a mental illness then it is allways better to use relaxatrion, meditation and counselling to deal with such things as moods and feelings of being depressed.

By the way I am writting an application for a new job in Psychiatry of Old Age, and I am taking a bit of time doing it as they are asking very involved questions. Pray that I have the patience and stickablity to finish the application and submit it on Monday.

And Matt and Sue live on the west coast of FL where it's gonna get wet. And Becky, Shelly, and Scott are down there somewhere. And Holly. And Jen. And Nearing Fourscore. We seem to collect friends in Florida.

Myra and I have a friend outside of Cocoa that has been through 2 already, and came up here to Richmond the week between them. Just when it flooded.

the bay is coming, the bay is coming

September 16 2004, 7:22 AM

I think they are some of the families that disappeared during our last storm on the Forum (speaking of the problem we had on the board for a while).

But again, it maybe that they got busy with school life and now the hurricanes are keeping people at bay. Or should I say, the bay is coming to the people...ouch!
