Be careful, be VERY careful. While nakedness may not be illegal most places, it is unlawful to be unclothed in MOST places. Manteca just passed an ordinance outlawing nakedness in public in response to citizen complaints about someone washing his car while nude, and a woman who was nude or topless (I forget which) sunbathing in a public park (which I understand is legal in places in Europe).

Christians must not merely comply with the letter of the law, but consider the social impact of their behavior for the sake of the effectiveness of their testimony.

I am not saying that we shouldn't try to give society a gentle push in the right direction.

In practical terms, I probably would not perform nude yoga at Fisherman's Wharf in front of hoards of tourists, nor would I stroll nude downtown (except for the Bay to Breakers) because so many people are likely to take offense.

I would love to get a bunch of nudist together and have a "nude-in" at Golden Gate Park. We could throw a frisbee around while nude, have a nude picnic, just have a great day in the park like everyone else. That is the kind of public nudity that is not quite so confrontational, but would probably be a very effective outreach in a laid-back city like San Francisco.

In time maybe most people would welcome nudity in any setting. For now, let's start in a park, where casual attire is expected.

Public nudity is not possible anywhere in my city. If it gets to be really big in San Francisco, it may take root elsewhere in years to come.

I don't think all of California is as conducive for such change. I know Orange County is very conservative. San Diego has a lot of people who might be interested. Having said that, the Orange county naturist meetup (see www.nature.meetup.com) has about 29 members. I still don't think they have had a proper meeting. No one (including myself) wants to take the initiative to get the group going.

Why not post to your hesitant group that you are going to be at Black's Beach next Saturday between 10:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m. next to a tall flag stuck in the sand matching a certain description.

Do it again the next Saturday to catch those who had prior committments.

If no one shows for either weekend your group was bogus! (no offence meant).

And remember that there are NO nude beaches in Los Angeles County, police cite naked people in Santa Barbara County.

If you're wealthy enough to go to a club or to have your own very private yard, it's not criminal to be naked from time to time, but for the rest of us . . .

Plenty of nude beaches around San Francisco and Santa Cruz. The water's pretty cold though!
