The word for the day....

This just stuck me as I read it today... I am providing the link to the whole passage but will highlight a couple of portions. This is from "The Message"

http://bible.gospelcom.net/passage/?search=Galatians%205:16-26;&version=65;

16 My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God's Spirit. Then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness. 17 For there is a root of sinful self-interest in us that is at odds with a free spirit, just as the free spirit is incompatible with selfishness. These two ways of life are antithetical, so that you cannot live at times one way and at times another way according to how you feel on any given day. 18 Why don't you choose to be led by the Spirit and so escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence?

...

22 But what happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard--things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, 23 not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. 24 Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good--crucified.

25 Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. 26 That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

It seems to me that the above passage describes much of the attraction I see in nudism/naturism.

  1. Freedom (vs. 16-18)
  2. Fruits of the Spirit (vs. 22-23)
  3. Freedom to escape Legalism (vs 23-24)
  4. For those of us who have struggled with whether naturism is within Gods will, the study and thought that went into our decision (vs 25)
  5. More accepting of others (vs 26)

Freedom for good

While at the same time, we must not be impressed with ourselves, burdening others, and even legalism.

I have seen some use naturism and "one must be nude before God" as a form of legalism.

I have heard of some (very few fortunately) make it a household rule that the family must be nude in the home. I can see some teenagers getting turned off real fast!

The ticket is Freedom. But not freedom FROM God but freedom because of God.

Note 5:13 "It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don't use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that's how freedom grows." (Using same Book)

Also 1 Cor. 6:19-20 "Or didn't you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don't you see that you can't live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. 20: God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body."

Thankyou for clarifying that.
