Feedback on worship...

Something I have been thinking about this evening... What are your thoughts.

God wants us to worship him. Every church has their protocol which describes "their version" of worship.

Things to think about:

1) Does God care about style of music?
2) Does God care what we wear?

If the answers to the above questions are "NO", what does God care about and how does our worship reach to God?

Some thoughts that seem contradictory to me... God does care about the little things, look at the passage in Matthew that talks about sparrows and the hairs on your head.

God cared what the Israelites wore in the Old Testament, in fact 2 books described the worship process in detail.

What is worship?

Here is what a lot of people assume:
"Worship is what you do at church."

"I seek those who worship me in truth and in spirit" God says.

Worship is not the music, and it's not the church, the dress or anything else. Worship is your whole life to God.

The music we sing at church does need to reflect our worship to God and is a tool we use to help us express it, but singing in church is not worship by itself. We can sing better than the sparrows Jesus talks about yet not reach God. We should already be in a worshipful state long before coming to church. Our daily life and walk is worship to God. Singing is only one small thing in our life that reflects our gratitude, humility, love, sorrow, repentance, etc. Just like praying, singing is one form. You can do that at home by yourself and at church in a communal worship.

Church is not what you do each week. Church is simply the gathering of the saints in God's presence. We gather to not only worship, we gather because we worship.

Worship consists of gathering, speaking, listening, hugging, caring, praying, supporting, giving, quiet time, fun time, sorrow, laughter, preaching, sharing, evangelizing, learning, submiting, sacrificing, and...oh yeah...singing.

Did somebody in the bible say that worship consists of what we wear? I don't remember that one.

Boyd

Thanks for your reply... In line with what I have been thinking.

In "The Books of the Law", especially Deuteromony and Leviticus, the whole process of worship is defined, from the offerings that are offered up to the clothes the preists are to wear during worship.

What is not perscribed is the clothing that the general population is to wear.

But today, it's different

Thank God that we are no longer under the old priesthood. We are under Jesus now and are no longer under the law of the OT.

So best to ignore them.

Re: What is worship?

Boyd, I put prayer in a much higher position then singing.  Prayer is talking to God!  It is worshiping him, but I think it goes beyond that.  I don't know of anything, besides getting into God's word, and turning your life over to him, that will get you closer to God.  Of course, when you turn your life over to God, you SHOULD be getting into his word, and talking to him more.

I've been a Christian for 31 years now, but it wasn't until the last 6 months that I really began to grow in Him, due to getting Still''s disease, which I feel God put into my life, to bring me back to Him, and to rely on Him ALWAYS!

The first Sunday back at church after getting sick was a real moving experience.  We sang the chorus "I'm trading my sorrows", and I totally lost it, I couldn't holb back the tears!  Music is a powerful tool, but that's just it, it's a tool.  I love singing the new chorus', they can really bring you that much closer to God, but I can't depend only on music to worship God!

"Make a joyfull noise unto the Lord", what is a joyfull noise?  What maybe a joyfull noise to me may be just noise to you, but if it's words can bring praise to God, and you can use it to worship God, then I say go for it.

I have been doing my morning devotions while nude, more as a symbolic thing, as I am coming before God with nothing to hide.  I had been praying about nudity issues for a while, when I got an answer, and it was as if God was sitting right next to me, talking to me, and what He said was that He didn't care what was on the outside of my body, but what was in my heart!  Since then, I have been nude a lot more often.  One problem I do have is I tend to want to push nudity ahead of everything else, which is wrong, as nothing should be put ahead of God first, then my family.  I always need to keep it in perspective, like everything else in my life!  That's where worship comes in, to put things into perspective!

Just my thoughts,

Rob

You got the right idea

March 23 2005, 6:45 PM

I didn't put that list in any order, just what came out of my brain.

What people make the mistake in doing is calling "singing at church" worship. Q: Do you worship God? A: Yes, every Sunday during worship services" which is explained with music and a praise team.

I think we all get excited about our naturist lifestyle when we are first opened to it with spiritual understanding, then our human nature steps in and we get out of focus. It's like some who understand that it's OK to drink alcohol, then go on a drinking binge. We have to be pulled back in.

But you will find a balance soon. Just take it easy, enjoy being and living as God intended.
