Headline on Jay Leno

I love Monday nights because I get to see the headlines on
Jay Leno. For those who don't know what he does, he reads
and/or shows headlines, strange stories, pictures, ads, etc. from
papers that viewers have sent in. For all the technology we
have in publishing there are many funny bloopers.

One came up tonight that was not a blooper but does fit well
with our subject here. There apparently was a nude brunette
woman standing outside her Hummer filling up with gas. NO
ONE GOT THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER. He didn't say
what happened to the woman. Hopefully nothing.

Not unusual

July 12 2005, 6:35 AM

I was told by a local in a small town in Texas (Gladewater, I lived there) that a woman was driven up to the theatre, jumped out, ran through the main door into the lobby, and out the other side and jumped back in the car and sped off (by a driver waiting).

Yes, the police were called, and not one person was able to ID the woman or the car the same way!

The only thing they could agree on was that she was naked!

Blondes who played in the casino

July 12 2005, 7:39 AM

There was a blonde who went to the casino to play the wheel.

She got to the wheel and announced to the spinner that she was more comfortable naked. So, she undressed right there.

She placed her bet. The spinner spun the wheel.

The wheel stopped.

She started jumping up and down, yelling, "I won! I won!"

Then she took all the chips and left.

The spinner asked another nearby, "Did you see what she bet?"

"Nope."

"I didn't either."

Why didn't I think of that?

I lived in Las Vegas for two years.
It never crossed my mind to do that.
DARN!

Where is Gladewater?

July 12 2005, 2:38 PM

I've heard of most places in my home state, but not Gladewater.
Is that in East Texas, near Houston?
If so, no wonder you wouldn't ever want to move back to Texas.

Gladewater

July 12 2005, 7:38 PM

Take Hwy 80, go about 85 miles East of Dallas. It's nestled in between Tyler and Longview off the path just a bit.

You should know Tyler, it's the Rose Capital.

Longview is 100 miles East of Dallas, 100 miles West of Shreveport. Exactly! No wonder it's called "Long-View"

Re: Gladewater

I know where both Tyler and Longview are, and Shreveport.
I guess some day I'll have to go through Gladewater.

That and Big Sandy

July 13 2005, 8:26 AM

Dont' blink, you may miss it.

Whats worth seeing is the smaller town 10 miles west on 80, Big Sandy.
Smaller, but more going on. At least when I was there last. Since the college there closed down, it may have changed.

In fact, it was our church college, Ambassador College that was two miles East of Big Sandy on hwy 80. We had to close it down along with our other two colleges, one in Pasadena, Ca. and the other in Bricketwood England.

The Engand one was closed first back in the late 70's or early 80's. Big Sandy was closed in the 90's and then Pasadena right behind that. We finally got the campus in Pasaden sold, it was huge and expensive! Took years to sell it!

So I don't know what the economic situation in Big Sandy is anymore since many small businesses benefited from the college.

Must have gone right by there.

July 13 2005, 7:16 AM

One of our routes from Baton Rouge up to south central Oklahoma used to be to take the interstate exit (think it's I-20) along in there to head up north.

Tried several routes. None seemed that great because of getting onto small, traffic-lighted roads from around Shreveport to my parent's place in Stonewall.

Think the Gladewater area exit was our most favored one. Had forgotten about it.

Our favorite now is non-stop flight from Richmond to DFW and then drive up back roads from the airport.

Did I know you were in Richmond

July 13 2005, 11:10 AM

Ralph,
I spent 10 wonderful days in Richmond at the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians about five years ago. I fell in love with the city!
It's definitely on my short list of places I would love to teach if given the chance.
