Trip

I'm back from my trip, very successful, but tiring! Would I do something like that again? Yes and no. Yes, trip, no Greyhound! Would you believe it takes twice, nearly three times the time with Greyhound as it does otherwise!

I left Greensboro around 1:30p (scheduled 1:10pm) and got to Raliegh two hours later (a one hour trip). I could have hung around the house until 4:30 and drove to Raliegh and got there in plenty of time!

Left Raliegh for a scheduled 6:00pm at 6:45. Eventually left NC state line around 9:15pm.

Thats nearly 8 hours! I would have been hitting the Ga/Fl state line by then!!!

Anyway, I got to Clearwater, FL by 11:00 AM next day (one hour late).

I forgot how tight those seats were! Need to see my chiropractor.

Stop at every tree

July 21 2005, 10:19 AM

I've heard the old adage that "a greyhound stops at every tree". Must be true!

We need more passenger trains in this country and at affordable rates.

Boyd, I am glad you are safely home.

Just every fourth tree.

Believe it or not, we got the "express" route, that means we stopped only at major cities in between, and not all of them at that! It was the layovers and the late busses that got our goat!

We stopped at only one town (out of the way) in Georgia, and went straight through to Jax. Then to Daytona Beach (Hi Spunky), Orlando, Tampa and then Clearwater.

As for the "many stops", there were not that many.

But cramped seats.

The last time I rode on a bus, was a Trailways (before the buyout) back in '78, went to California. They had the "Eagles", which were the top of the line busses, bigger, longer, smoother rides, more leg room.

And I was about 75 lbs lighter, which translates to "skinnier".

I took only one bag which I kept on me.

Other than that, not a bad trip.

Boyd

Bus Trips

July 21 2005, 1:16 PM

Hearing about your bus trip, Boyd, makes me nervous and the nervous
twitches begin again. I haven't been on a bus to visit anyone in a number
of years. But the band tours, orchestra tours, high school band contests
that I've been a chaporrone on in recent years (which in itself is funny -- me
a chaporrone -- HAHA!), and the National Lutheran Youth Conference I
went to on a bus from Austin to Denver with a driver going through the mountains,
at night, exceeding the speed limit, and making each switchback like we
were in some thrill seeker movie have all left me with an intense dislike
for busses and a need to visit my reserved padded cell each time.

And I used to like flying, but now that the government has told people to
look for anyone who is sweating profusely, that may be a dislike soon. If
you were to have seen me the past few days I guess you could have had me
picked up as a possible terrorist, because that's all I've done. My kingdom to
be packing behind a privacy fence.
